WHAT IS THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT FORUM?

The African Development Forum is an innovative, SOAS student-driven platform championing African development. We aim to promote international interaction, generate lively thought-provoking discussion and to challenge assumption surrounding development in Africa.

To do this, we hold an annual student-led conference in collaboration with the SOAS Centre of African Studies. We aim to challenge mainstream discourse on African development.

However, as a student-led initiative we rely on the donations to do this.

The theme for our 2017 annual conference will be “ Energy and Agency: Fuelling Africa’s Development'' - focusing on climate change, resource conflicts and women's agency in Africa on Saturday 18 March at SOAS, University of London.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

As a student-led event, we are reliant on donations and sponsorship to deliver our annual conferences.

We need to raise £2,500 to ensure we can deliver our conference in March. We are calling on the SOAS community to support us and to help us to challenge assumptions and celebrate African achievements.

CHALLENGING ASSUMPTIONS, CELEBRATING AFRICAN ACHIEVEMENTS

As well as hosting a series of panel discussion, our conference provides a safe and open space to allow speakers to discuss the obstacles facing Africa but also to celebrate African achievements and culture. You can see the full programme here.

The conference will conclude with a drinks reception. There will also be a number of African food stalls as well as arts and crafts stalls located at SOAS available to attendees throughout the day.
