I am looking to raise £800 to travel to The Gambia in December. I will be travelling and volunteering with an organisation called Football4Peace, whose core purpose is to enhance life skills, sports skills and technical knowledge to disadvantaged Gambian children. Whilst in The Gambia, we as volunteers, will implement the five key values of Football4Peace; responsibility, inclusion, respect, equity and trust. Whilst coaching, we are required to teach these values through the use of football. As well as teaching the children these important skills, they will also have the ability to interact with others individuals from different villages beyond social community boundaries. I hope to make small changes to these children lives, which in turn, can evolve into big changes in a country, which can lack opportunities to be involved in sports. I would love to be able to help in providing a chance for the children to learn valuable life skills.
Hi! My name is Abbie Measures, a second year student at The University of Brighton, studying Physical Education with QTS. I’ve had a passion for football since the age of six and have been through various entre of excellence's such as, Brighton and Hove Football team. I’m currently playing the sport I love for Lewes Women Football Club. Before starting at The University, learning about the course and the Football4Peace project was a major reason why I decided to study here.
The Football4Peace project is immensely important to me personally and professionally! Over the years of playing football, I have started to learn that it isn't just a game for individuals, but can be used for an escape of reality and can teach very valuable life skills. Football for me brings young and old together to create positive and gender neutral environments.
The funds I’m hoping to raise will be going to the cost of accommodation and flights to The Gambia. Our role as a ‘coach’ with Football4peace is voluntary and any additional money raised will go towards equipment for The Gambian children.
Please take a look on the right at some of my rewards to help you get involved with my project! I’d love to take you on the journey with me!

Below is a message from of a volunteer coach who took part in Gambia 2018 Football4Peace Project:
The 10 days that I spent in The Gambia were the most inspiring and eye-opening days of my life. Spending each day coaching the Gambian children taught me so much about the culture and the country, allowing me to form a close bond with the incredible people I was working with. The language barrier allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and explore different ways of teaching and coaching yet still using the same methodology. After the week of coaching, the festival at the end provided an inspiring showcase of the impact that F4P had on all the Gambian children, their families and the coaches. It was inspiring to see children of all ages, from different communities playing alongside each other and getting on, regardless of their differences. Football 4 Peace is an incredible and unique platform that provides once in a lifetime experiences.
Lastly, I would like to say a huge thank you for anyone who has taken an interest, donated or shared my page! Please share with anyone you think would be interested.
