Our health workers across the country are facing the coronavirus pandemic without the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) they need to care for infected patients safely, and without risking becoming ill and spreading the infection themselves.

The number of cases are set to remain high for some time and we cannot stand by and watch.

Brunel University London have launched Brunel Cares to get PPE to those in need. We are now working quickly to source the much-needed equipment to distribute to hospitals, care homes, schools and local communities to ensure that key workers are supported and protected through this worrying time.

We urgently need your help. We have to raise £30,000 to fund Brunel Cares that will cover the following:

- FFP3 & Type 2 face masks

- Clear medical masks (to communicate with deaf patients or those hard of hearing)

- Waterproof aprons and gowns

- Materials for our volunteer sewers to make cotton masks for the vulnerable and elderly in the community

Speaking to doctors, nurses and care workers the need for protective equipment continues to be huge and there is a growing fear amongst health workers of a second spike of Covid cases as lockdown restrictions ease. We need your support so that we can move forward and help save lives.

UPDATE 30 June 2020 - The Brunel Cares team has been busily working on getting PPE to those that need it and wanted to share some highlights of the work that has been done so far:

  • 4000 Type 2R masks have been delivered to health workers in local care homes and Hillingdon hospital
  • 100 FFP3 high protection masks are being used by doctors and nurses in Hillingdon, Harefield & Royal Brompton hospitals
  • 2000 aprons have been delivered to local care homes and a further 2000 are soon to be on their way to a hospital in need
  • Volunteers have given their time to collect and drop off materials for sewers, packed boxes of PPE, distributed to health workers, and handmade over 450 cotton masks for the elderly and vulnerable in the local community. Thank you to you all!
  • 6000 more items of PPE will be on their way to Brunel campus next week for distribution to care homes and hospitals.
