our school

Coppermill is a small, happy school in Walthamstow, East London. We are a very creative and aspirational school, with many talented children and adults (staff and parents/carers) who bring the curriculum alive through art, crafts and drama.

I teach across the school and regularly have a focus on the use of technology to enhance and support the curriculum. The children are very enthusiastic learners and love the challenges involved in computing and coding.I would like to support this excitement and harness their creativity by developing a digital maker strand to our learning which will link Computing, Design and Technology and Art to other areas of the curriculum and the real world.

our project

I would like to buy the school a set of Micro:bits - a mini computer that children can code to do many wonderful things. Eg make wearable tech (a watch or heart monitor), a Rock, Paper Scissors game, build a reaction timer or a milk carton robot. I would also like to buy Playground Kits. These kits have a number of add on devices - sensors, buttons, buzzers - and have simplified connections between each component, making it easier for younger children to use and create.

Equipment we are hoping to get

17X Playground for Micro:bit - Super Kit (inc Fire Stick, Microbit and USB cable) @ £73.44 each = £1248.48

17X Blaze Gizmo @ £6 each = £102

17X Button Gizmo @ £3 each = £51

17X Prototyping Gizmo @ £1.80 each = £30.60

5X 20cm cable @ £2.44 each = £14.40

Subtotal: £1446.48

Credit card fees @ 2%: £28.93

Grand total: £1475.41

The Future

I am very excited at the prospect of our children being able to marry their creativity and enthusiasm for computing and can see many exciting projects ahead that will bring their knowledge and understanding alive.

If you are able to, please donate to our fund. Also, please share a link to this page with anyone you think could be willing and able to support us.
