A short summary of your project

The Bali Sports Foundation is an Indonesian based charity that works to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Indonesia by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace. Through Team Brunel Abroad a group of students from Brunel University London will be fundraising to support the work of the foundation, and will be partaking in a 2 week trip to volunteer on Bali Sport Foundation projects. Each student will be raising funds to contribute to the cost of the trip and to enable the Team Brunel Abroad project to make a donation to the Bali Sports Foundation to support their future work.

Who are you?

Hi! My name is Diogo Espirito Santo Luz! I am originally Portuguese, but have lived in the U.K. since the age of 7. Throughout my time in the U.K. I have worked with young kids. However, never have I had the opportunity to help the less fortunate elsewhere in the world. Another student fundraising for this project is my girlfriend, Courtney Smith. Making this experience even more interesting. Since the fundraising itself can be a learning curve plus, can enhance both of our life skills.

Your story

Has an aspiring football/futsal coach, the opportunity to travel around the world and see different sporting set ups allows me to gain further understanding how sport can bring people together. These experiences are valuable for any individually. However, personally this experience would be very meaningful since I have been through struggles myself. In which sport (football) got me out of trouble. Hearing the stories of these children and people involved will be life changing, and I definitely want to be apart of impacting their lives. Just how a coach impacted mine.
