Bali
In September I will be travelling to Bali taking part in a volunteering programme with SLV Global . During my time there I will be providing support to Balinese patients suffering from mental health issues. Resources and psychiatric facilities available in Bali are very limited and therefore organisations which seek to help rely heavily on volunteers.
As a mental health volunteer I will be running therapeutic activity sessions at various government initiatives. These will include working with patients living in psychiatric facilities, sessions in schools for children with special needs such as autism and brain injuries and community outreach programmes for the elderly. The aim of these projects are to better the lives of these individuals.
SLV Global is a volunteering organisation working in Sri Lanka and Bali. It was started in 2010 by a graduate from my course - Psychology at The University of Manchester. The aim of the organisation is to provide volunteers who can bolster the resources at existing facilities and provide greater social interaction and stimulation for individuals living in institutionalised care. As a volunteer, I'll also be able to gain valuable hands-on experience within the mental health sector as well as having the opportunity to develop this with an additional cultural perspective.
Organisations such as SLV Global rely heavily on volunteers, and so the funding for these placements is also very limited. I would be very grateful for any donation that you could give me.
Through funding provided by yourselves, this placement will provide me with incredible, hands on experience working in a mental health setting, as well as providing support and assistance to many vulnerable people in Bali who otherwise have limited opportunities for treatment. Your donations would contribute to my fees for the training as well as my accommodation and the flights to get to Bali.
Reaching £1400 will help fund my placement fees
Reaching £2000 will help cover my flights
Reaching £2500 will help me pay other costs (visa, insurance etc)
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it would mean so much to me if you would help me get to Bali. This will enable me to put all my knowledge and skills gained from my Psychology degree to good use in helping and assisting the services available within the Balinese community.
Select this reward if you just want to donate to the project without receiving a reward.
