We (Jenny, Joe, Naomi, Vaughan, Katherine, Sarah and Savannah) from the International Recruitment, Partnerships and Mobility team are taking on The Great York Walk, a challenge walking event that will help to transform mental health by raising funds for Mentally Fit York at the University of York. Mental ill-health doesn't discriminate and right now, mental health has never been more important as the social implications of coronavirus begin to unravel.
So together with loads of other people - some with a connection to York, some with no connection - we are going to be counting our daily steps for the next three months (10th May - 31st July) to contribute to a 25,000 mile walking goal. That's the equivalent of a walk around the Earth!
We are each aiming to walk 10,000 steps per day so that our team reaches our target 5 million steps in total, equivalent of 2,500 miles over the 12 weeks. That would take us on a trek from York to the North Pole, or for those with warmer climes in mind, a lovely amble across Europe perhaps visiting our strategic partners in Maastricht and Thessaloniki!

Our walk will be in aid of Mentally Fit York, which will promote good mental health on a local, national and international scale. Your support will be used to fund initiatives such as 24/7 mental health support for York students and research projects to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services.
Your support may also go towards providing suicide prevention training, Mental Health Nursing Scholarships or it could contribute to a range of other initiatives which are decided by an expert panel of mental health and wellbeing researchers, practitioners and advocates.
