The Challenge!

Harriet English and Hannah Lawton, team Inspirational Friends, are taking part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2016, starting on 12th December. The 3,000 miles race, that takes between 2-3 months, starts from La Gomera in the Canaries and finishes in Antigua.

Team Inspirational Friends...

Harriet studied marine biology and oceanography at Southampton University, graduating in 2012. Since leaving Southampton, Harriet has been travelling the world, gaining experience and pushing herself to extremes in a multitude of environments.

Hannah is currently working as a Talent Identification Coach for the GB Rowing Teams Paralympic Programme. Equipment failures, a battery fire and a capsize forced her retirement from the Atlantic race in 2013. Hannah was addiment that she would be back, so this year with Harriet, she is going to finish what she started.

Our Story.

Inspirational Friends was created in memory of Eleanor Ellis, a fellow rower and inspirational friend to Hannah and Harriet, who at the age of 23 lost her life to Cervical Cancer. First diagnosed in the summer of 2010, Surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy ensued until, in March 2011 Elle was given “2 good months and then a swift decline”. When faced with death, Elle showed an extraordinary spirit and courage which inspired everyone around her. Despite the doctors estimate Elle lived for 15 months. She lived every day like it was her last. Eleanor, or Elle to her friends, was an inspiration to all those who knew her. She was charismatic, adventurous and lived her life to the full, taking on every challenge which came her way.

Inspirational Friends are raising funds and awareness for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Myton Hospice. Both charities supported Elle and her family through those tough times.

TOUGH TIMES MAKE YOU STRONGER...

In December this year, we are attempting to break 2 records!! Although the pairs class is the most highly contested event, only a handful of women's pairs have attempted it. We are aiming to break the GB Women's Pairs record and the overall Women's Pairs record in a bid to become the fastest two females to row across the Atlantic.

The main areas where the money will be spent are:

    • Safety equipment- £6,000
    • Food- £4,000
    • Specialised ocean rowing kit- £5,000
    • Shipping-£15,000
    • Race entry- £22,000
    • Travel- £5,000

What we want to do for you...

    • For the highest donor, we are offering half a day aboard Sedulous, the third member of team Inspirational Friends. See what life is like on board an ocean rowing boat, without having to row an ocean!
    • For any donors that donate £50 or more, travel across the Atlantic with us... as we will be putting your name on the boat!
    • For all donors, we will be eternally grateful that you helped us get to the start line...
