iPads for Innellan Primary School!
Innellan Primary School is a small village school overlooking the River Clyde in Argyll, Scotland. Our 26 pupils benefit from a picturesque rural location, close to forests and coast which are excellent for outdoor learning. Our small school is growing steadily, from only eight pupils just a few short years ago to enrolments for over thirty for the 2018/19 session.
Being such a small school, in the past it's been difficult for the parent council to fundraise for additional school resources to aid the pupils' learning. Our recent school growth has meant that Innellan Primary School is going from strength to strength in terms of teaching and learning as well as becoming a larger part of our wider community. But our need for up-to-date, modern resources has also increased so that our pupils may have the same opportunities for learning of those in larger city schools.
What do we want?
The Innellan Parent Council would like to raise funds for iPads for the pupils at Innellan Primary school. £1,500 would enable us to purchase 5 iPads with a little left over for paid educational apps. Recent research in Northern Ireland has shown that young children's maths, English and communication skills improve if they use iPads in school on a regular basis.
Who is this for?
The P3-6 class is going to be loaning 8 iPads from the Argyll and Bute Digital Learning team for the remainder of the 2017/18 session to help raise attainment in Literacy. These are just a loan, however, and they will be collecting data to show how the iPads have been used and their influence on the pupils' learning. In order to maintain a bank of iPads for use in the P3-6 class and then also the P1-2 class we will need to raise funds to purchase our own.
Why do we want it?
Currently Innellan Primary school has no iPads for our pupils at all. We are one of the very few schools in our area without even a small number of them to aid our learning across all areas of the curriculum leaving us at a disadvantage in preparing our pupils for modern learning practices.
In their recent Northern Ireland study, researchers from Stranmillis University College assessed how pupils, parents, principals and teachers used iPads over the course of two years.
Among their key findings were that:
5x iPad 32GB with WiFi @ £251.43 each = £1,257.15
5x STM Dux Rugged Case for iPad 2017 @ £25.99 each = £129.95
Subtotal: £1,387.10
Credit card fees (2%): £27.74
Grand tota l: £1,414.84
If we raise any more money, we'll buy some educational apps to use on our iPads!
