A short summary of your project

I'm raising £12000 to participate in a bootcamp (CodingDojo) in the USA which will allow me to improve my knowledge, be faced with a different culture and learn a lot of new things in computer science field that will give me the technical skills that I need to find good jobs.

Who are you?

Joao Pedro Ferreira da Silva was born in Leiria, Portugal, on May 8, 1990. Currently, he is beginning his journey at Deloitte as an analyst in the Financial Service area. He is also finishing his MSc. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Faculty of Sciences University of Lisbon. He holds a BSc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal. He integrates extracurricular activities which help to empower his social and personal skills. He is an enthusiastic in most of areas of computing field, specially artificial intelligence, programming languages and algorithms. He attended a Summer School on Systems Biology in Dresden, Germany, which allowed him to strengthen his knowledge in systems biology area and integrate, for a short period of time, one of the world’s largest research teams. As hobbies he enjoys taking some photos with his camera, experience new cultures and extolling their knowledge in other areas through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

My story

My purpose here is to raise enough money to participate in the bootcamp in the USA. My background is in computer science, and I developed some projects in this area, not only during my BSc. and my MSc. but also in my free time. I've always been fascinated by this area, because I love to learn cutting edge technologies that makes people' life easier. I've always been faced with a lot f challenges in my professional career as an IT Consultant in a international consultancy company. The main reason for my intention to participate in Coding Dojo is because I feel that 'now' it's the right moment to learn something particular and become good at it. USA has always been seen as a wonderful country to learn something in computer science, so I think that it is the perfect place to go but I need some extra money because is quite expensive.

Where will the money go?

  • To provide a better understanding about the money that I'm asking I provide here an explanation for that. If the minimum target is reached, will be used for help the payment of the first installment.
  • If I can hit the full target, I'm going to used that to pay the entire bootcamp course and all the fees.
  • Eventually, if I'll get extra money I'm going to used them to pay the house-rent and the travels.
  • Next I put a breakdown of costs:
  • Bootcamp: $12000
  • House-rent: ~$3000
  • Travel: ~$900
  • Food: ~$1200

Rewards

  • For everyone who donates to me, first of all thank you so much, but also will have the opportunity to follow me in this experience in a blog that I'm thinking to create:)
