A short summary of your project

Hi There! I'm aiming to raise £500 to travel enable me to travel to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India to volunteer with the DMU Square Mile India Project which supports 120 children from one of the poorest communities in India within the Gandhi Ashram. Through your support this will help me and my fellow travellers to provide them with food, shelter, medical supplies, sports equipment, school uniforms, extra education and much more. Through the DMU 'Loving Community' we will also be helping to rebuild homes to raise them above the floods and protect their families from the yearly monsoon season.

Who are you?

I'm Kyle, currently working as a Critical Care Nurse at UHCW in Coventry since graduating from DMU with a BSc in Adult Nursing. I'm dedicated to helping those that need it most both in my career and in my endeavours in the outside world. I hope that this trip can be my first of many within the project and I plan to use my nursing skills on future trips to provide healthcare to the local communities also.

Your story

Following a live threatening illness in 2012 and then through my work as a critical care nurse, I realise the fragility of life on a daily basis and how small differences can have a massive impact on the lives of many. This is why I am taking the opportunity, with the full support of my fantastic work colleagues, to travel to Ahmedabad and make a difference to those would need it most out there. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I promise to work from dusk till dark, in the brief time that I am there, to ensure those I meet can benefit my presence most. This isn't sight-seeing. I hope this trip will widen my view of a world I am yet to discover and I feel that this trip could be truly life changing for me, those that are travelling with me and those we meet while we are out there. Being the first group to go out there we aim to lay the foundations for a strong bond between DMU and the Gandhi Ashram that will continue to grow over years to come. This is something I have grown to feel massively passionate about the more I have learned about the potential impact or actions could have out there. I can assure you that your donations will not go unnoticed and that everyone I meet on this journey will benefit from the funding you have participated in that has enable me to do this, and the supplies I will be able to take with me and my team.

Where will the money go?

All of the money donated will go directly to the DMU Square Mile India Project and assist in getting the team over to India, accommodation and enable us to participate in a variety of volunteering activities such as providing them with food, shelter, medical supplies, sports equipment, school uniforms, extra education.

What will you do with extra funds if things really take off and you raise more than your target?

Any additional funds raised over the £500 target will be spent on further supplies and transporting donations from the UK, such as sports equipment and clothing, essentially the more we can raise the more we can add to the benefit of the people of the Gandhi Ashram and the local community.

Throughout this campaign I will provide daily updates on the impact your donations will have as well as a VLOG / Video Diary I will produce whilst I am out in India.

I have some fab rewards to thank everyone who donates, whatever the amount you might give. Check them out from Shout out's, Postcards, to a free bicycle to anyone who donates £100 from the UK, delivered to your door!
