I am a driven, international, curious, and creative individual currently completing my undergraduate degree in Human Sciences (Biological and Social Sciences) at the University of Oxford, and have recently been accepted into the Mind, Brain and Education (MBE) Master’s program at Harvard.
My main interests are cognitive neuroscience (notably implicit bias), social justice, cultural intelligence, governance and athletics.
Whatever angle I look at it, I believe Harvard is an opportunity I cannot miss- it will equip me with the knowledge, credentials and network to fulfil this goal. Furthermore, I would like to honour the many sacrifices which have been made on my behalf.
In my Personal statement I wrote “Education has the power to alter the behavioural course of an entire generation, from their beliefs and lifestyle to […] prejudice”
I feel that my vision is in line with the ethos of many Powerlist members; I have chosen this Master's program to study the cognitive neuroscience underpinning racial prejudice, in addition to addressing the racial and economic disparities in education outcome. There is growing research reshaping our understanding of prejudice, representation, and its manifestation in social institutions (ie: schools, media, policy), which I aim to contribute to.
US studies don’t come cheap- the total cost for the programme will be £50,000, and I require to have proof of funds by the beginning of June so that I can apply for a visa on time.
For this to be possible, I am searching for sponsors who can assist in financial support. I had applied for scholarships, and for various reasons was unsuccessful. Harvard have however kindly provided £11,000 in Financial Aid, and my family and I have raised £20,000 via savings/loans. To minimise the impact on my mother- who is currently handling three jobs and single-handedly supporting my two siblings at university- as well as my upcoming final exams, we are searching for ways to raise the final £19,000 through alternative means.
I will ensure that whoever sponsors me will recover their investment, whether it be through my support of their cause, or working on a venture they may be spearheading.
With deep appreciation and gratitude,
