Who I am and why I am doing this campaign?

Hi! My name is Rachael. I have just finished my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Essex, for which I was awarded Upper Second Class Honours.

I have been offered a place to complete a masters in Clinical Drug Development. I was so happy to hear I got a place on this course, which will offer me further training in the industry of pharmaceuticals. However, I may not be able to take up my place due to the cost of the course.

The masters is a one-year, full-time, taught-based degree which will involve completing at University College London, with a 10,000 written scientific report. I have always had a strong interest in medical science, but I'm particularly looking forward to the challenge of understanding drug development, and how we have come so far to treating complex disease with something as small as a pill of molecular compounds.

Although I have worked all summer to save towards my tuition fees, I've lost out on large scholarships which would have made it possible for me to study this masters. This leaves me with a few options: take out a career development loan, take on a full-time job while studying, or crowd source.

Obviously, I do not want to take out a loan, considering the amount of debt I have from my undergraduate degree. For me to pay both my tuition fees and living costs, with a full-time job, would be unfeasible.

A bit more about me

I'm a strongly independent minded women who believes all individuals should push to make themselves and the people around the successful beings they can be. I've previously been a project leader for an incredible project, helping women who have been sexually trafficked to change their lives around for themselves and their family, and I hope to develop other projects with the young inspired minds of other UCL students. I love to cook, as you will see from my Rae's Cuisines page via Twitter.

Where will the money go?

All money raised will go directly to the university tuition fees for the course, the full amount being£12,310

UCL's payment deadlines mean that I need to pay half of the fees (£6045.50) by the time I enrol at the end of September, which is my "minimum needed" by the end of this hubbub campaign.

Any additional funds raised will go towards PayPal fees (~£465).

As a token of my gratitude I can give you something cute, something from the heart, and make you a part of my work
