I'm raising £1500 to fund my trip to Uganda this summer where I will be situated in Mildmay Hospital, a HIV/AIDS hospital on the outskirts of the capital city of Kampala. Over the course of 28 days, I will be helping with the well-being of Mildmay's HIV patients. I haven't yet received a definite description of the work I will be doing as the hospital will only know when I arrive where my help will be most needed.
The hospital is funded and run by one of the University's trusted partners - the Mildmay Uganda charity . Mildmay Uganda started its operation in 1998 and has since contributed substantially to the reduction of the HIV epidemic in Uganda. The independent non-governmental organisation is currently reaching as many as 103,000 patients that are being treated and supported. The charity is also starting to expand its expertise in health issues other than HIV.
My name is Oskar Slavíček and I am originally from Prague, Czech Republic. I'm currently in my second year at The University of Manchester studying Mechanical Engineering.
I have always planned to work as a volunteer in an African country. I also plan to extend my degree to Biomedical Engineering at post-graduate level, hence my interest in working in a hospital.
The money I raise will go towards my travel expenses, vaccinations, visa etc. Through paying for my place on the project and giving my time and support in Uganda, your donation will support the work of this important charity.
A breakdown of my expenses:
Depending on how much you would like to donate, I will express my thanks by doing the following: I'll thank you by sending you a message on social media, text or via email, by sending you a photo album with a written story of my trip and for higher donations, I will also bring you a nice souvenir.
If you are really interested and you'd like to know more about the trip, then you can get in touch via my facebook account, Oskar Slavicek. You can also find Mildmay Uganda's website on http://www.mildmay.or.ug/
Every little helps. I will be very thankful for any donation even if it is the smallest amount. If you'd like to share this platform around then that would be really cool too.
