The Mission

Our objective is simple - take as many of our members as possible to the 2020 National Student Space Conference at the University of Birmingham. It's all planned out and ready - we just need your help to make it happen!

About us

AstRoSoc is the University of Leicester Astronomy and Rocketry Society. We are mostly undergraduate students, studying a range of subjects including Physics, Engineering and Geology, - but we welcome people from all disciplines. Weekly rocketry workshops and monthly observatory nights provide our members with opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have, as well as fostering a sense of community among people with a common interest in space.

Destination: NSSC 2020

The UKSEDS National Student Space Conference, now in its 32nd year, is the premier event for students interested in space, uniting them with academics and professionals from across the country to network, share knowledge, and discuss the challenges facing the sector.

It is open to all, and features talks by leading space science and industry figures, as well as a careers fair and opportunities to take part in discussions and networking events.

The event is organised by UKSEDS, the UK's national student space society, and is this year hosted by the Poynting Physical Society at the University of Birmingham.

Where will the money go?

We've already started the planning process and have come up with an estimate of the cost per person, broken down into its different parts:

  • Train tickets £20
  • 2 nights accommodation £42
  • Bus tickets £3
  • Conference ticket £20
  • **Total = £85 per person**

If we want to achieve our target of taking 30 people we need to raise £2400. That's quite a lot, but we know that with your help and generosity we'll be able to get pretty close!

Any extra that we raise beyond this will go towards other projects which are about to get underway - such as altering the 2.4 metre fully tracking satellite ground station on top of the Physics building so that it can be used for research and teaching.

Help us succeed!

Please share this project far and wide across the galaxy! We need as many people as possible to help make this happen - so even if you can't donate money yourself, you can help us by spreading the word.

Remember that any amount, big or small, will make a difference so give what you can and we will be extremely grateful.
