Dear all,

As we approach the halfway point in our Rocket Fund Campaign and since we have reached 50% of our funding goal, I thought it would be a great opportunity to post an update.

Firstly, I would like start off with MASSIVE thanks to all those who have donated to our campaign so far, your contribution will help benefit every child’s learning at our school during their educational journey and will continue to do so for others in the future.

Secondly, for all those who helped spread our message, you are just as important to our cause. Whether that was via social media, a text message, passing on a letter or just generally bringing it up in conversation, without these communications we wouldn’t have got this far and it really shows how much you all care for the children’s education.

The last two thanks I’d like to give are to Mrs Needham and to Miss Armer.

Mrs. Needham discovered the idea of Rocket Fund and thought it would be great for the children, the school and the local community and after a little research and a chat with Mr. Cox (Executive Headteacher) the project was a go ahead, thank you for bringing this to our attention AND for your donation.

For those who don’t know, Miss Armer is chair of the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and has spent the last 5 years organizing fun events and funding many extras for the school all to the benefit of the children. Miss Armer is not a huge fan of public praise but when I asked if the PTA was willing to ‘front’ the project, she didn’t hesitate and saw it as another great opportunity to provide something more for the children that they deserve. The sheer effort is phenomenal! Countless Tweets and Facebook posting, letters and messages being sent out to the community, contacting local business and radio stations and a cake sale (donated by a parent) that sold out in record time. The great ideas aren’t dwindling and there’s plenty more to come in the next 2 weeks!

It’s very likely that I’ll get an ‘ear-bending’ for mentioning how great Miss Armer is and continues to be but one thing is for sure, I couldn’t of done this by myself so if you happen to just catch her around then a thank you ‘nod’ would suffice as it hopefully won’t get me into too much more trouble.

There are 2 more weeks left and these are crucial to hit our target. Staff, parents and members of the community are coming forward with ideas to raise money and continue to share our message. We are so close to completing our mission and the children’s learning will benefit massively from everyone’s joint effort.

My final word will be on the Makey Makey’s that will be purchased with the funds raised. In the initial pitch I outlined the benefits of these brilliant pieces of equipment and how they compliment our current IT facilities and how they will continue to do so in the future, but the biggest point I would like to get across to anyone who is unsure is the HUGE difference it will make to all the children’s learning. Makey Makey’s will build on their knowledge and will allow every child to re-imagine a way to interact with a computer, and then they simply make their invention. The possibilities are endless and most importantly, the children have fun while they learn.

In the next update I am hoping to piece together a video for people to see just a few of the many inventions the children can make but if you want to see it in action, then I’m happy to show you the one that I purchased myself a while back and a few of the ideas some of our pupils have already come up with.

Let us all ‘Makey Makey’ way for the future together.

Best Wishes,

Mr. N Hammond
