Raising £1078 to directly fund resources for inspiring pupils to learn new skills through robots. These are outside of our traditional curriculum but teach perseverance, creativity and teamwork - essential skills for employers of the future.

My students

Ocklynge Junior School is one of the biggest junior schools in the country with nearly 900 pupils in four year groups. There is a broad socio-economic mix with a lower than national average percentage of disadvantaged children, however because of the size of the school, this is a large number of children. A recent Ofsted inspection in October 2016 judged the school to be inadequate however a great deal of work has been done since then to move the school forward.

My project

We want to raise the profile of STEM subjects at Ocklynge, giving children the chance to be inspired by real world projects using a wide range of essential employability skills including teamwork, perseverance and ingenuity. There is a growing network of primary and secondary schools that are working together to share ideas and resources. One local school has brought in a specialist teacher of technology to train teachers, run classes and set up an after school club to design and build robots. At Ocklynge, we would like to use this expertise to improve outcomes for our young people. It's fun, engaging and fascinating.

Where your donation goes

We plan to purchase 15 remote radio control units and servos to allow design and build of basic robot models. Staff in each year group would also attend training sessions on design and technology essential skills.
