Who are We?

We are the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Student Group at Robert Gordon University Students' Union. The group is managed by a group of four students, and with the support of the Students' Union, we run the award for over 30 students.

Our Story

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is open to anyone aged between 14 and 24 and provides opportunities for students to build important transferable skills and greatly enhance their CV and employability. However, the number of award completions by those that have left secondary school is extremely low and the support for those over 19 years old is also almost non-existent. To address this, in January 2017, RGU:Union joined a small number of other higher education institutions throughout Scotland in offering this accreditation to our students. Students can either finish off their award (for example, if they have started it at school) or start a new level from scratch. We offer the award at Bronze, Silver and Gold level; ensuring that both UK based, and International students have the ability to complete their award while at RGU.Since launching, we have had already seen our first six students complete their awards, plus a number of others have successfully undertaken their practice and assessed expeditions. We look forward to building on this extremely promising start and increasing awareness and student recruitment throughout the next academic year.

Where will the money go?

It costs over £100 for one student to complete their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This covers a DofE licence fee, registration, training sessions, inductions, plus their practice and assessed expeditions.
