If you can, please sponsor me, all donations will go towards sponsoring medical research at Swansea University. Providing Seed-Corn grants to young researchers and grants to final year medical students.
I love running, having only taken it up recently to get fit, squeezing in training between my daughter's dance and son's swimming classes. I work in the Sustainability team at Swansea University and really care about the future of our communities and the planet.
So far I've clocked up the Swansea Bay 10k event and Mumbles triathlon. Now I'm looking for the next challenge, so a 21k/13 mile half marathon seems like a good step up and I'm hoping to do a good time too!
I previously raised money for Cancer Research UK in 2015 when running my first 10k. Now I'm hoping to support the Medical School at Swansea University which is ranked 1st in the UK for research environment and 2nd for overall research quality. They apply an interdisciplinary approach to research and innovation, so I know any donations will help make a difference to global health and wellbeing.
Sadly over 90% of patients die within five years of diagnosis of lung cancer despite it being the most common cancer type worldwide. Georgina Menzies a Swansea University student has undertaken research on the Spectroscopy for early lung cancer diagnosis. Georgina's research aims to develop a simple, cost effective and non-invasive test to be used at point-of-care to facilitate early detection of lung cancer.
Where will the money go?
If you sponsor me I'll send you my live tracker on Strava so you can see my run via GPS as I progress (hopefully :-)
