Stretch Target!

Thank you so much for the amazing support with our Rocket Fund!! We’ve done so well that our pupils decided we should set ourselves a higher target to enable us to buy even MORE new teach... our new target is £3115 .. almost double or original target! Let’s smash it!!! Please keep sharing our post.

St Gabriel's Academy

We are based in Ormesby on the outskirts of Middlesbrough and have 1 class in each year group with 205 pupils currently on roll and an additional 35 in our Nursery. Our children are all aged 3 to 11 and we offer breakfast and after-school facilities. Due to the demographics of our local area we currently have 45% of pupils entitled to free school meals (pupil premium); this is much higher than the national average.

We are situated in Teesside where there is large social context. Our school has a strong family and catholic ethos and serves families of all backgrounds although many live in social housing in an area of considerable deprivation. Unemployment in Teesside is extremely significant, as is crime, poor mental health and involvement with Children’s Social Care. For many of our children, financial poverty leads to limited experiences outside of school and relatively narrow aspirations. Many families need significant support to ensure their children attend school regularly.

We want to make learning as exciting and engaging as possible and be able to offer experiences that are not readily available in every home. We want our students to be excited that it's a school day and enjoy their education as much as possible..

This technology is for our whole school, to use across a range of subjects, but will mainly be used to look at topics which pupils often see as 'boring'... We want to bring subjects to life and allow children to fully immerse themselves in their learning journey! What better way than to imagine yourself in that far away country by seeing it surround you or to watch in reality a battle that took place hundreds of years ago?!

Virtual reality will allow our students to visualise their History, Math and Geography lessons more clearly and allow them to interact with subject matter in a totally new way. It will enable them to experience places they have never been and may never see again. This will make subjects and learning more memorable and encourage our pupils to have the confidence to try new experiences.

Although we do have an I.T suite our equipment is dated and does not offer the latest technology to our students, with the introduction of Virtual Reality headsets and iPods we aim to transform this and bring the most modern technology to the fingertips of our younger generations.
