What I am raising money for.

I am attempting to raise £23,000 to fund my way through my BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) at BPP Law School. The figure listed is the cost of the course and some assistance with my living costs. I appreciate any help you may be able to give. Thank you for taking the time to consider my project.

About me

My name is Sara and I am 38 years old. I am a married mum of 2 beautiful children, one boy and one girl. I have worked all my life and never asked for anything off anyone, and so this is a new experience for me. For 17 years I worked with children, young people and families who were vulnerable and need the assistance of social services. In 2007 I became ill, I was struggling to walk due to pain in my knee and required surgery to correct the problem. Unfortunately it was the 1st in a number of subsequent surgeries for joint problems. Finally in 2011 I was diagnosed with degenerative bone disease and fibromyalgia and told I would just have to manage my condition. I take high levels of opiate medication to cope with the pain and struggle on a daily basis. I was told by doctors that it was unlikely that I would work again and that my condition would continue to deteriorate, a wheelchair was ordered and delivered to my home and it seemed inevitable that I would lose my independence. I sat and looked at that chair for a number of weeks, refusing to use it, feeling more and more sad about my future. Then I decided that I would not become my condition, I would not be left on benefits at 36 years old, and that I did not want my husband and children pitying me or caring for me. It was my birthday a week or so later, and on that day I decided to make the change. I got my certificates together and I called my local university. Would they take me on a qualifying law degree, would I be able to manage. To my delight I was offered a place starting that September on a qualifying LLB degree. I have now completed the first 2 years of my degree. I am now starting my 3rd year, and loving every minute of my degree. I have undertaken a number of mini-pupillages and have fully committed to a career at the Bar. I feel that with my experience of family law and child protection proceedings that I am able to offer added value in my application for pupillage. If I am unable to join the BPTC course then I would of course consider taking the LPC, and would hope that a local firm would be ale to offer me a position as a trainee solicitor. I am passionate about access to justice and pledge that if I raise the funds needed, I will work in the community to help clients who cannot access justice due to legal aid funding cuts.

What I hope you can help me with.

I am hoping to raise the funds to undertake my BPTC and be able to live for the year, I do have an incredibly supportive family that has offered me a huge amount of support however they simply cant help financially. I have worked really hard on my degree, and am consistently getting marked at 2:1 and above. I am very active within the university, working as and when I can to help fund me through my degree years. The simple truth is that I cant work full time and complete my degree in my 3rd year. I want to make my degree count. I have one shot at this and that's it. I hope that you may be able to help me get a little closer to my dream.

Where will the money go

  1. To pay the course costs of my BPTC

  2.  It will help with modest living costs required whilst I undertake the course

  3.  The amount I have asked for will allow for very modest living expenses

  4. I will give 12 week updates on my final year of my degree so you be able to see my progress.

  5. If I raise more funds that my initial request I will be able to assist community groups on a voluntary basis instead of working in the holidays. I would also use the funds to undertake added value courses to further assist me to gain a pupillage.

Rewards

I am not too sure what to say here as I have very little to offer. Any person or business that donates to my fund will have their name (if they wish) put on a hoody which I will be wearing that says that you sponsored me to get where I am going. I will also be starting a Facebook page where all my updates will be posted. I will thank you on there too. I am happy to write thank you letters to each and every person and business that assists me to reach my goal. I am going to start a blog where I will be writing about my experience and am happy to thank you on there too. If you wish I can also tweet about you and your kind help. If I raise the money quickly I will also contact regional news channels and newspapers to enquire if they would be willing to run my story. If you would like me to do anything else to promote you or your business then please ask and I will consider your request.

Please help me if you can, I would also appeal to you to let your network, friends and colleagues know about me
