We have initiated this project to inspire our pupils by introducing them to the fantastic world of 360 degree film making and virtual and augmented reality. The project will form part of our enrichment curriculum which is in place to provide quality extra curricular activities to help spark and ignite an interest in STEAM occupations. In order to do this we are raising money to acquire the necessary equipment required to support the curriculum that we have written for this exciting new media. Virtual Reality is currently not only making waves in the entertainment sector but the education sector as well, with untapped potential to support the curriculum as well as faster learning, better retention and improved decision making as a result.
Our students have a passion and great love for learning. Based in a school that embraces technology the way we do, we believe that it opens the doors to our children's futures, preparing them for jobs that have most likely not been invented yet. After their Google expeditions experience, obtaining VR equipment was at the top of their list. When talking to our school council they came up with ideas on how this film making project could support writing and have decided to create some lesson ideas for their teachers when using VR.
We were lucky to have google come in and give us a taste of VR through their Google Expeditions activities, but it would be even more fortunate if we could make this more sustainable by procuring our own resources.
The aim of the our enrichment strategy is to close the gap of attainment between our advantaged and disadvantaged pupils, by providing after school provision based on STEAM subjects comprised out of Science, Technology, Engineering, arts and Maths. The reason for wanting to fund devices that allow access to platforms such as AR and VR enable us to teach, expose and inspire these children in ways not done before.
By pioneering this resource in this particular project, we will be creating the opportunity to expose it to its full potential, eventually allowing us to experiment with its impact on special needs learning as well as its potential as a whole class learning tool. We hope to provide an immersive learning experience, enhancing a students sense of involvement, making learning fun, secure and more active.
The above list will bring us up to the maximum amount we are able to aim for. We are aiming to trial this across year 5 at first which will benefit 60 children as well as a further 12 children in the afternoon enrichment club and some of our SEN statemented children. The age group that will be involved will be ages 9-10. As we become more proficient using this resource and can afford to purchase more, we will be able to start work with year 4 as well.
