AUDI AND ROBERT WALTERS GLOBAL BUSINESS CASE COMPETITION - GBCC


We are raising £3,500 to attend the annual Audi and Robert Walters Global Business Case Competition hosted by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, in Japan

The University of Glasgow is amongst one of the undergraduate teams from the world's top universities invited to compete in solving and presenting their recommendations in a real-world business case.  

Who are WE?

We are a student society at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School. Our membership base comprises of high-achieving students. Notwithstanding our students' diverse range of academic backgrounds, there is a common interest in management consulting. They all possess a desire to succeed, community spirit and innovative leadership qualities.

In a global economy that is becoming increasingly interdependent and culturally diverse, the ability to compete amongst the world's leading business students is an invaluable opportunity.

Taking part in business case competitions has been an integral part of our students’ development, and has helped them secure internships at some of the world’s most selective companies, including McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, Barclays and HSBC. Past achievements of members of GUCS include:

  • 1st place in the UK CIMA Global Business Challenge 2013, after which the team went to represent the UK in the Global Finals in South Africa

  • 2nd place in the UK CIMA Global Business Challenge 2014, where 2 Glasgow University students tied for the best presenter in the UK award

  • 1st place in the Procter & Gamble Marketing & CBD competition

  • 5th place worldwide at the Sauder Summit taking place in Vancouver, Canada

  • This academic year, our teams have reached the finals of the IBM Universities Business Challenge (semi-final due in March 2016), the Global Student Challenge (Global Final due April 2016), the finals of Unilever Future Leaders League and the Solvay Business Game

The University is dedicated to helping students reach their potential, whether this is through the curriculum or through offering students practical experience. During the next couple of months, the Glasgow University Consulting Society is looking to find ways to financially support students to participate in the GBCC.

We are attracted to the GBCC for its environment of fostering strategic thinking, innovative problem solving and sound decision making, all reflecting the type of work done in a professional setting. GBCC will allow our students to apply their knowledge to real live business cases and develop professional and academic skills. We believe our students will embrace the experience that will challenge them on multiple levels as a team.

At the heart, we are drawn to the opportunity to observe and be exposed to international perspectives. The week will offer our students a taste of life in Japan, where they will get to explore its culture and participate in social events. Our students will interact with industry professionals and have the chance to learn from the judges that exist as the top business leaders in Asia. Not only will they walk away with a commitment to innovate as well as strong leadership and critical thinking skills, they will build long-lasting relationships that will be unique to the GBCC experience.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?

The team will be composed of 4 students and potentially a mentor or a faculty adviser.

  • For the week that GBCC runs, the participation fee is around £1,300 per team
  • Travel expenses are expected to be about £550 per person (£2,200 total)
  • A detailed breakdown of expenses will be provided at the time of booking and leftover funds will be returned pro-rata
  • The students will cover their own food and other expenses while competing

We set our minimum at £1,000 because if we reach that amount, we believe there is a chance that the Adam Smith Business School would recognise our effort and contribute some resources as well. Having such low minimum will allow us to end the campaign and withdraw the money should the Business School decide to cover the rest of the trip.
