We are raising £1,750 to raise money for our album and debut performance of our 'Hireath' project which will shed light on new and undiscovered folk music from around the world.

The Apex Singers

The Apex Singers are a brand new 8-part A Cappella vocal ensemble that focus on performing fresh arrangements written exclusively for the group. Based in Manchester, the ensemble aims to blend the age-old traditions of unaccompanied vocal music with the cutting edge of production technology; with performances including live mixing, sampling and electronic effects. Directing the group is composer and vocalist Ollie Lambert, whose work has been commissioned and performed by choirs all around the UK, including the BBC Singers, Canterbury Cathedral Choir and the Hallé Youth Choirs. He has worked with students from The University of Manchester in the past and is really excited to do so again with this project!

How will your money help?

Our debut project ‘Hiraeth’ breathes new life into rarely heard folk songs from around the world, arranged by award-winning choral composer Ollie Lambert. This project brings cultures together in a series of performances with folk music from every continent, from an African lullaby, to a vocalisation of an Irish jig. Following the premiere of the project in Manchester, Hiraeth will be taken to Dublin, culminating in a performance at The International Irish A Cappella Festival in July 2019. ‘Hiraeth’ is a Welsh word meaning ‘nostalgia’. A deep longing for home.

We are raising money to help record an album of our folk arrangements and fund our debut performance at the Royal Norther College of Music in June 2019. We are incredibly passionate about the music we’ve been creating over the last 8 months and can’t wait to share it with you. Music is such a powerful way for people to communicate and spread messages. Our emphasis on unheard folk music allows people to intemperate this music, without the preconceived perceptions that come with ‘popular music’. We really love how cultures express themselves through music.

By donating to our project, you are enabling ‘The Apex Singers’ to launch ourselves into the public eye and record our debut album. This will provide us with a platform from which we can launch new projects and continue to shed a light on new and undiscovered music. By donating to our project you are helping us to rescue this unheard folk music and show it to the world.

Where will the money go?

If we reach our £1,000 minimum target this will contribute towards:

• Equipment (mics, mixer, cables and monitors, etc.): £750

• Venue hire: £250

If we manage to raise our full target of £1,750 the additional funds will go to:

• Music video production: £400

• Album mastering: £150

• Flyers/publicity: £150

• Printing: £50

If we surpass our full target then this money will contribute to:

• Album distribution

• Website design

• Photography/videography

• Future projects

We will give you regular updates on the progress our projects every two weeks, or if anything majorly exciting happens! We’ll be sure to let you know how our premier concert on the 8th June goes or when we release any new music.

What's in it for you?

We have some fab rewards from copies of the album, to your name in the liner notes. We want to thank everyone who donates, whatever the amount you might give. Check them out down the right side of this page.
