A bit about us...

Our Gilbert and Sullivan Society has been running since 1976 putting on a G&S operetta at Aberdeen Arts' Centre every year.

We are entirely self-funded and every member contributes a lot of time, effort and money to the show resulting in fantastic reviews every year.

"A playful production that is immense fun and refreshingly lucid... [with] an excellent, well-rehearsed chorus and orchestra making this Mikado a sheer delight."

The Mikado (2011). Roddy Phillips, Press & Journal review

"[An] imaginative production. An accomplished orchestra supported a feast of vocal and acting talent. This production bounds along with a real spring in its step."

Patience (2010). Sonja Rasmussen, Evening Express review

This year...

We are putting on The Sorcerer, a satirical take on A Midsummer Night's Dream, which tells the story of Alexis who is about to be betrothed to the beautiful Aline Sangazure; his father, the genial old baronet Sir Marmaduke Pointdextre, plans to celebrate the occasion by treating the entire village to a feast in the grounds of his mansion.

Unfortunately Alexis, believing he can make everyone as delirious in love as he is, decides to hire a sorcerer to lace the tea with love potion. Everyone drinks it and falls asleep, waking up and falling in love with the first person they see creating pandemonium...especially since Alexis' betrothed, Aline, sets her sights on the old vicar and her mother falls for the sorcerer!

Funding

Every year our shows cost around £13,000 to produce. This money is spent on an orchestra, scores, hiring the Arts' Centre theatre, the set and lighting among many things. Every one of our performers, technical staff and directors volunteers for free to make things as low cost as possible and fundraises all year but in these economic times funding for the arts is still pretty difficult. Any contribution you can make towards our costs is gratefully appreciated!

Thank you!
