2018 SDSU ACT Ag Media Summit Trip

SDSU ACT would love to support club members attending the 2018 Agricultural Media Summit.

This project received pledges on Fri 10 Aug 2018

About our Fundraiser - The SDSU Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) Club is raising money to send club members to the 20th Annual Agricultural Media Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona. This conference is the largest gathering of agriculture's top writers, photographers, editors, publishers and communication specialists in the nation. Students attending the conference will have the opportunity to enhance their communications skills through several professional development sessions while making connections with industry professionals and other students from across the United States.

About our Students - SDSU Students Katie Berndt, Michaela Simcoe and Maddie Schafer will be attending the 2018 Ag Media Summit to grow their professional networks, expand their skill sets and represent SDSU's ACT Chapter at the National ACT meeting.

  • Katie is from Eagle Butte, South Dakota. She is studying Agricultural Communications with minors in Ag Business and Studio Art. She has been a member of SDSU ACT for three years, served as the 2017-2018 Social Media Coordinator and was recently elected to serve as the next SDSU ACT Vice President. This will be her first Ag Media Summit experience. Katie is interested in attending the summit to help build our local ACT club and to bring back information to share with fellow agricultural communications students. She believes that Ag Media Summit will be great opportunity to make real world connections that will help students find careers after graduation.
  • Michaela is an Agricultural Communications student from Elk River, Minnesota. She has minors in Animal Science and Youth & Community Work. Michaela has been a member of SDSU ACT for three years and served as the 2017-2018 Secretary/Treasurer. Last year, Michaela was able to attend the summit as an intern with the American Agricultural Editors' Association and really enjoyed her experience working behind the scenes and meeting several industry professionals. She is looking forward to gaining a new perspective by attending some of the professional development sessions this year, while connecting with new people to learn about possible job opportunities after graduation. Below is a photo of Michaela at the 2017 Ag Media Summit in Snowbird, Utah.
  • Maddie is from Goodhue, Minnesota. She is majoring in Agricultural Communications and Agricultural Leadership with minors in Animal Science, Marketing, and Agricultural Business. Maddie has been an SDSU ACT member for the past three years and will serve as the 2018-2019 Club President. She is looking forward to attending Ag Media Summit to connect with others in her field while learning about how to best share the story of agriculture. Her costs for attending the conference will be covered by a scholarship provided by the Livestock Publications Council.

Where will the money go? - This will be the first year SDSU ACT is sending a group of members to the summit, but we are hoping to make this an annual event for our club. We are all very excited to attend the conference and plan to make the most of our time spent there. Funds raised will be split between conference attendees to cover the costs of the trip. Any extra money raised will be donated to SDSU ACT Club and used for future students interested in attending Ag Media Summit.

Below is a breakdown of our expected costs.

$430 - Registration fees

$480 - Flight Costs

$100 to $200 - Additional Meals & Transport from the Airport
