I have decided to take a year off from my studies to be a student missionary for the 2017-2018 school year. I want to dedicate a year of my life to God in service as I share His love with others. I have been given the opportunity to serve the people of Palau as a 3rd-grade teacher at Palau SDA Elementary School. I am so excited to meet my little ones and embark on this new and challenging adventure.
All Southern Adventist University student missionaries are expected to help raise funds to support the Student Missions program. I need your help to send me and other student missionaries so we can serve around the world. Would you please consider supporting the Student Mission program at Southern and helping me reach my goal of $3,500?
Any amount you donate will be deeply appreciated! If you cannot give financially, I ask that you keep me and the other student missionaries in your prayers as I embark on this life changing experience.
I am wrapping up my junior year as a psychobiology major at Southern Adventist University. I plan to pursue a career as a pediatric occupational therapist. As you can see, being a teacher is not my major nor my future career path. I am extremely nervous and excited to step completely out of my comfort zone and be a teacher for a year. Someone once told me that "God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called." This statement really resonated with me because I am not qualified to be a teacher, but with God's help the possibilities are endless.
The beautiful island of Palau is located east of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean. Approximately 20,000 people live on the island and the two main languages are English and Palauan. Student missionaries having been teaching grades K-12 in Palau for many years as well as on the islands of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Yap, and Majuro.
Many of the SDA schools in Palau and other Pacific islands rely on student missionaries to work as teachers in their facilities. Without student missionaries, these schools would not be open, leaving hundreds of children without an education.
"But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it?" Romans 10:14-15
