Beth was an Environmental Geography student who had just completed her second year, when she was tragically killed during the summer break. Beth would have been graduating this summer. She was an enthusiastic and committed student and popular with her classmates. She was warm-hearted and kind, with a gift for communication.
As well as a new award being launched in Beth's memory which will recognise a student who has made a substantial enhancement to our departmental community - as Beth did - her friends would also like to leave a lasting legacy to Beth by planting a tree in Diamond Wood on campus.
The money raised will primarily go on securing the tree to be planted in Diamond Wood, with all proceeds after this going to the York Opportunity Scholarship fund, ensuring that any student who has a place at York has as few barriers as possible to accessing their place. Your support will go to students from less advantaged backgrounds, including local authority care leavers, students from low income backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students from a Black and ethnic minority background, providing them with living awards of £1,100 for 3 years of undergraduate study.
