Our school is based in Plympton, Plymouth. We are in a suburban area, with many of our parents proudly working two jobs in order to provide for their children. Our community consists of very caring, hard working families, all working to meet the ever increasing costs of supporting themselves. This however has a huge impact on the funding we receive. As a school, we are one of the lowest funded schools in England.

This means that we have to make sure that we spend our limited resources well. We do this by concentrating our expenditure on making sure that our children are taught by excellent teachers and support staff, and by making very careful decisions about the resources and services we buy.

What do you want?

We would like to purchase iPads which will engage our children in STEM activities using technology to support investigations in Science in the outdoors.

Who is this for?

We intend to raise standards across all year groups, delivering cross curricular hands on Science activities and investigations, promoting practical investigative work. Staff training will develop creative activities and make cross curricular links with Outdoor Education, using the environment to enhance Science.

Why do you want it?

Our goal is raising standards in investigative primary Science and STEM activities across the school and to spread this enthusiasm across the community by disseminating and sharing good practice between the five schools in the academy and our catchment secondary school, raising standards across our local area. Technology benefits children's thinking skills, computational processes and investigational skills.

Using iPad tools like Padlet for question and response; Word Clouds to extend children’s vocabulary; and Kahoot quizzes to enhance thinking skills, all make learning a fun, engaging activity. We will engage our children in STEM activities using iPads to support investigations in Science by for example; slow motion videoing gravity investigations testing Galileo's theory of gravity and filming and timing air resistance investigations with parachutes that the children have made.

We want to develop confidence in all of our children, engaging them with Science in a way that we have never done before. Technology has opened new windows to the outdoors. With technology it is possible to connect students with their natural environment in new and exciting ways that enhance their understanding of the outdoors rather than keeping them indoors. With the right tools, it's possible to create meaningful learning experiences in which technology enhances time spent outside. Please do donate, but if you can't donate right now you can help us in other ways! Please share this project with anyone you think would support us. Share the link at the top of the page.
