Babbasa Youth Empowerment Projects CIC (Babbasa) was set up in 2010 with a mission to support aspiring young people (16-25) often disadvantaged by their background, location or lack of affluent networks, to pursue their professional aspirations. “Change 300 futures” is our most ambitious campaign to support 300 aspiring young people from Bristol’s diverse inner city communities to progress into work, further education or self-employment over the course of 2017.
To realise the campaign objectives, we would have to raise a minimum of £84,000 throughout 2017. In the first of our three fundraising appeals we are looking to raise a minimum of £28,000 by February 2017. The money raised will be used to support up to 100 young people and will cover costs such as providing alternative mainstream qualifications, career-orientated events and costs involved in coordinating professional mentoring schemes.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO ATTAIN A LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATION: £1,200
This will enable a young person to attain a mainstream qualification, in order to progress into work or further education, through our Level 2 accredited qualification programme.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO ENTER INTO WORK OR EDUCATION: £500
This will enable a young person to address personal barriers/challenges, build confidence and self-esteem for entry-level work, through an intensive 1-2-1 support over 3 months.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL MENTOR: £300
This will enable a young person to access career-oriented work, further education or self employment, through a professional mentor's support over 3 months.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO APPLY FOR CAREER AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: £100
This will enable a young person to attend monthly employability workshops on CV building, preparation for interviews, personal statement writing and support to search and apply for job and further education opportunities through 1-2-1 support.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO ACCESS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH A CAREER EVENT: £50
This will enable a young person to become informed about career opportunities and professional networks through accessing tickets to our Babbasa career-orientated events.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON TO ACCESS DROP IN CAREER SESSIONS: £25
This will enable a young person to attend weekly opportunity briefings and drop in support sessions throughout the year.
SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON BY TAKING ON A CHALLENGE: FUNDRAISE FOR US!
What will you do to help us improve the life chances of 300 young people? Would you rather take on a personal challenge, or engage in an activity with your friends, family and neighbours? You can do this by setting up your own personal fundraising page. Get in touch with the Babbasa team on admin@byep.org.uk to find out more.
For the UK economy to grow and cope with global challenges, we would need to unlock the potential of every young person living in the country. Currently, approximately 27% of all children and young people in Bristol are known to be living in poverty. As aBristol based youth empowerment social enterprise, we feel it is our responsibility to inspire and enable as many young people as possible to explore and nurture their skills and talent needed to improve their life chances.
Babbasa has developed a unique development programme and set of services that consist of accredited skills training (mainstream equivalent qualifications), mentoring schemes, career-orientated events and recruitment services. We engage young people through local community outreach activities, education services, faith bodies, social media and other youth groups.
