Emmanuel Choir
Cambridge
There’s never been a more exciting time to be involved with the Chapel Choir of Emmanuel College, Cambridge—with your generous support, our tour to Munich last summer was a great success, and we’re hoping to do it again this July! So far this year, we’ve performed Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem and Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri , taken our service of Lessons and Carols on tour to St James, Gretton, and the Temple Church in London, and partnered with the Choir of Queens’ College, Cambridge, and the Brandenburg Sinfonia for a sold-out performance of Haydn’s Creation at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Now we’d love to take our music-making to a wider audience with a week-long choir tour in early July to the beautiful and historic city of Kraków in the south of Poland! With masses and concerts planned at the Church of the Holy Cross in Zakopane, the historic Kościół Arka Pana in the former model socialist district of Nowa Huta, and the 900-year old Wawel Cathedral, Poland’s national shrine, we look forward to sharing our musical gifts and participating in the city’s vibrant cultural life.
Fundraising for this tour has been well underway since the end of Michaelmas term, with Christmas carol singing in the Market Square and Mill Road Winter Fair, as well as a choir-hosted pub quiz and fundraising concert in college during Lent Term. While we’ll be contributing our own funds to this project, we’re also committed to ensuring that all choristers, regardless of their financial circumstances, can join us on this trip.
We’re now asking for your help to meet the rest of our fundraising goals: £250 will cover the remaining costs of travel and accommodation for one of our lovely choristers for the entire week—but any amount helps, no matter how large or small! Any donation of £5 above is eligible for various tokens of our gratitude and thanks, from a copy of our latest CD of the works of E.W. Naylor to a personalised musical message for you or one of your loved ones, and much more!
But money isn’t everything: consider sharing this crowdfunding page with your friends and family online, following us on Facebook or Twitter , or coming along to one of our bi-weekly Eucharist or Evensong services in College!
A friendly choir in Cambridge’s friendliest college (we think!), the Chapel Choir of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, sings in weekly services of Eucharist and Evensong in the college’s historic chapel, completed in 1677 by Sir Christopher Wren. Led by the Director of Chapel Music, Mr Richard Latham, and two Organ Scholars, Stella Hadjineophytou and Hugh Crook, the Choir consists of approximately 25 mixed voices and is known for both its high standard of musicianship and warm social atmosphere.
Recent performances have included the Bach's St John Passion , and the Mozart Requiem and Haydn's Creation with the Choir of Queens' College at St Martin-in-the-Fields. Tours in recent years have taken choir to Munich (2016), Copenhagen and Malmö (2015), and the United States (2014), where they performed at Trinity Church, Wall Street (NYC), Yale University and the Memorial Church at Harvard University.
