I am raising £1408 to buy some chromebooks for my students to use in classrooms. By providing my students with resources to explore, research and be independent learners, the project will raise aspirations in what they can achieve.
Rachel:
Flipped Learning means students take more responsibility for their learning. For homework, students watch pre-recorded lessons and it is at this point - rather than in the classroom - that initial teaching and checking of prior knowledge & key skills takes place.
Homework therefore involves watching a video, making notes and answering questions to check understanding. The classroom lesson corrects misconceptions and deepens understanding: eg, in Maths, students complete problem-solving exercises.
Flipped Learning means that:
Students have more one-to-one time with the teacher, and take responsibility for their own learning.
Teachers support each student's individual needs, depending on their understanding, rather than dictating at the front of the classroom.
The classroom becomes a community where students support one another
1. Videos, for students to view specific content online, are created. Content can be created in different ways:
2. Videos are hosted onto a platform for students to access. Platforms include:
3. Students access the videos online - at home, at school or in the library.
Students can comment through online created forms and answer questions to assess their understanding of the topic. These will be automatically marked, and students receive feedback immediately so they can find out how well they have done.
Students can then choose to go over the teaching and/or come to lesson with questions. They are proactive, dedicating more time to the topics which they need more time for.
4. Students who have not accessed the videos prior to lesson will require Chromebook/Hybrid to go through the homework they should have completed.
Bergmann and Sams’ book Flip your Classroom has the catchphrase, 'Reach every student in every class every day'. This is completely in line with our school motto, ' Every Child, Every Classroom, Every Day Achieving Excellence '. We believe that Flipped Learning is a perfect fit for our school.
Jo: What is the flipped learning or the flipped Classroom? Flipped learning is where more is asked of the students in terms of taking responsibility for their learning. The aspects of our classroom now is shifted so that the initial teaching and checking of prior knowledge and key skills is delivered to students in a homework setting with pre-recorded lessons. Students are asked to watch a video for homework, making notes and answering questions to check their understanding. The following lesson is then used to correct any misunderstandings, misconceptions and to mainly deepen the use of Maths through problem solving using inquiry tasks or rich tasks. What this model does is increases the time spent in lessons working one to one with individual students. The teacher no longer is standing at the front dictating the lesson but they are facilitators supporting each students individual needs dependent on their understanding.
The school’s motto of “Every Child, Every Classroom, Every day Achieving Excellence”, is aligned with catch phrase of Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams’ book, Flip your Classroom, “Reach every student in every class every day”. The aim for flipped learning is that it will be the development of all learners and an important feature being that it teaches a student to take responsibility for their learning. The classroom will become a community where students support each other, are resilient and engage in the curriculum supported through the use of technology.
1. Videos will be created or curated for students to view specific content online.Videos content can be created a number of ways which can be varied throughout.
2. Videos hosted onto a platform for students to access. There are a differing number of platforms that can be used:
3. Students access the videos online. Computer and internet access required at home otherwise students would have to use facilities at school or their local library. Students comment through online created forms, answer questions to check whether they have watched the video and also to assess their understanding of the topic. These will be automatically marked and feedback given to the student straight away on how well they have done. This allows for the opportunity for the students to go over the teaching and/or come to lesson with any questions to help them move forward
4. Students who have not accessed the videos prior to lesson will require Chromebook/Hybrid to go through the homework they should have completed.
