I am attempting to raise any money so that I can volunteer in Sri Lanka as part of a mental health placement. It will allow me to get hands on experience and to help those who need it most.
I would be working with people who have mental health problems as well as people with special needs, to help them in the best ways possible.
I'm a BSc Psychology student in my second year in London. I have a huge interest in Psychology and mental health and a passion to help others in developing countries where they don't have access to things that developed countries do.
I recently spent 3 months in Cambodia on an education programme that triggered a real change in the local community. Since getting back I have continued volunteering in my own local school once a week while focusing on my studies. However, I want to get back into doing what I do best and go back out to a developing country to try and help as many people as I can.
I am hoping to go to Sri Lanka and be part of a mental health placement that focuses on helping those who have been affected by things outside of their control. The placement would involve working closely with people who have mental health problems as well as those with special needs, and also spending some time teaching English to children and adults.
It's important to me to do whatever I can to help even a small amount of people. Volunteering is something I really do enjoy and that has become a necessity to me. Not only will the experience allow me to help others but it will give me valuable experience that can largely help my progression towards my future career.
The funding will go towards allowing me to get to the placement.
It will go towards my necessary training, my accommodation, food, flights, and the 24-hour support that will be available to me.
I am going to give rewards to those who donate, whether that be a mention on my blog, a cake, a souvenir or a date with my sister.
Updates will be available on a Facebook page and a blog that will be up sooner to the departure date. The link will be posted on the FB page.
You don't need to give money to help me succeed! Please share this page with anyone you think would support me – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat over the fence or on your blog.
