Hey there!
My name is David Thorne, and I am a 21 year old Psychology graduate from West Sussex who has recently graduated from Durham University. I am hoping to raise £10,000 to fund my Master's in Applied Neuropsychology at Bristol University, for the 2018/2019 academic year. I am spending this year interning in the Memory Assessment Service of the NHS (unpaid), so will only be able to work very part-time hours elsewhere, so am in need of money to fund this next step in my journey to becoming a Clinical Neuropsychologist and hopefully help a substantial number of people with brain injuries and dementia.

I have had my mind set on pursuing a career in clinical psychology since taking psychology at AS level, a decision driven by my interests and my experiences. I have been exposed to a plethora of mental health disorders in my life: One of my childhood friends has struggled with OCD and Tourette’s Syndrome since a young age; one of my sisters has struggled with severe anxiety and schizophrenia for the last 7 years, and one of my grandparents battled with dementia in her later years.
My interest in clinical psychology has shifted from a general interest, to a more specific interest, over the past year. The final year of my degree at Durham University allowed me to specialise in aspects of Psychology I find most interesting, these being neuropsychological approaches. I have completed modules titled, ‘Neuropsychology of Amnesia’ and ‘Cognitive Neuropsychology’. I thoroughly enjoyed these modules and this further reinforced my interest in specialising in clinical neuropsychology.
If I reach my minimum target I will put the money towards my tuition fees, and will top up my funds via loans and any work I can fit in this coming year. If I reach my full target then I will use the funds to pay for my tuition fees for the master's, which will be £10,700 by the time I start. If you super generous people somehow donate more than the full target, then I will donate the extra money to two charities I am very passionate about: Headway (a brain injury charity) and Alzheimer's Research UK (dementia research charity).
In terms of updates, all donors will be given termly updates on how the course is going.
I will be offering hierarchical rewards, based on how much is donated, so definitely check them out on the right hand side of this page as it might affect how much you want to donate!
I understand not everybody can donate, but spreading the word is just as invaluable! If you know of anybody who might be interested in donating, please do email, facebook, tweet or just bring this fundraising page during mealtime. Everything and anything will help me make my dream a reality!
Select this reward if you just want to donate to the project without receiving a reward.
