I’m raising £17,230/ $35,000 AUD to study my master’s in London so that I can become an ethical fashion consultant and end exploitation of garment workers in the fashion industry. I have set a MINIMUM TARGET of £8615/$17833 AUD

Please help me to help others!

About me

Hello!  I'm Ania, a 27-year old ethical fashion activist and fashion designer from Australia.

I’m one of the 12 students selected worldwide to study in the MA Fashion Futures program at the London College of Fashion.

I have spent the past 6 years working in the fashion industry within fashion design, production,     sales, textiles and consulting, for Florence Deschamps (Paris), Vivienne Westwood (London),             David Szeto (Brussels) and Body Peace Bamboo (Byron Bay).

Last year I launched a small womenswear clothing brand Zoltko, using only environmentally friendly materials & manufacturing in collaboration with a fair-trade workshop in northern India.

My dream is to help end the exploitation of garment workers and create a more ethical fashion industry.
believe that fashion can be used for positive change and social empowerment and it is my mission to make this happen.

FASHION INDUSTRY FACTS

 - It is estimated that 75 million people are employed within the textile and clothing sector                    worldwide with the majority located in Asia.

- 80% of these workers are women.

- Garment workers are promised a life of emancipation but instead they face forced labour, unsafe     working conditions, unreasonable working hours, discrimination, child labour, physical and sexual   abuse, are denied access to unions, freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Currently 21 million people globally are victims of forced labour, with 26% of these being          below 18 years old.

- For an average item of clothing only between 0.5-3% of the cost goes to the worker who made it.   This means that on an 8/ £6 t-shirt, the most a worker will get paid is 24 cents/ 18                           pence www.cleanclothes.org

In order for things to change, there needs to be new systems put in place within the fashion supply chain that favour human rights over profits.

My plan is to become an ethical fashion expert & consultant, so that I can help designers, brands, suppliers & governments create ethical supply chains which value each worker, and through this eradicate exploitation within the fashion industry.

In order for me to do this, I need to undertake postgraduate study.

Postgraduate Study

University: London College of Fashion/ University of the Arts London

Course Title: MA Fashion Futures

Course Duration: 15 months (12th Sept 2016 – 1st Dec 2017).

Click here to view my application portfolio.

This is the only master's course in the world that specialises in fashion, ethics & the environment, and is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to develop my skills, research & expertise alongside some of the worlds leading industry academics and practitioners. These include: Helen Storey, Dilys Williams, Kate Fletcher and Sandy Black

The course is linked closely with the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, a community of world-class designers, communicators and academics, and as a student I will have access to its resources and expertise.

The course is also in partnership with Kering, who offer collaborative opportunities and scholarships for students of this degree.

RESEARCH PROJECT

During this 15-month long course, I will have to undertake a concentrated research project.

Click here to view my project proposal.

My research project will explore clothing supply chains in developing countries, and will focus on presenting new systems and solutions that create fair working conditions, fair pay and opportunities for garment workers.

The aim is to present an informative and accessible guide, which will inspire and educate the industry in applying ethical practices within their supply chains and businesses.

This project will allow me to develop expertise within fashion supply chains so that I can become an ethical fashion consultant & help eradicate exploitation!

Will you help me get there?

FUNDING

As an international student course fees for the UK alongside living expenses in London are quite high, which makes it difficult for me to be able to afford this all on my own. Funding opportunities for international students are extremely limited and the Australian government offers no support for international study. I am also unable to take out any further loans as I already have a large, outstanding undergraduate study debt. I am currently working three jobs to help cover my living expenses in London, and am selling off most of my belongings.

Here is a break-down of costs (click the figures to see where they come from):

UAL’s payment deadlines mean that I need to pay half of the tuition fees (£8,615/ $17,230 AUD) by the time I commence the course on 12 September, so my ‘minimum needed’ by the end of this hubbub campaign is £8,917/ $17,833 AUD* (50% of my tuition fees + 3.5% PayPal/ Credit Card fees).

Any additional funds raised will go towards the rest of the tuition fees, the full amount being £17,230/ $35,000 AUD*.

Anything over that will go towards the rest of the PayPal Stripe/ Credit Card fees (£603.05/ $1,206.10), and then towards my modest living expenses.

If I’m unable to raise this amount I will have to forfeit my place in the course, as I just don’t have all of these funds. :(
