Brinsley Primary School is situated on the edge of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Unfortunately this means we miss out on a lot of funding opportunities across Nottingham and Derby. It has just reached the point where it is now viable to have single form entry right across school. We have predominantly children from a White British background. As a result, we have a large proportion of White British boys, some of whom have become disengaged in English, particularly reading.
We want to buy 5 iPads to help some of these boys to access the English Curriculum by using specific apps and functions on the iPad like 'Read to me'. We also plan to use them for guided reading groups.
There are approximately 20 boys across KS2 who would benefit from having access to this technology.
We want to aid the boys in KS2 to achieve age-related targets by using iPads as a stimulus for writing, eg using green screen technology. It will also allow them to access sites such as Showbie, where teachers can give them verbal feedback on their writing and set tasks. Our boys have expressed a desire to do more technology-based learning during pupil interviews.
