I have always been deeply passionate about animals and the environment and it saddens me to think of the peril that nature is currently in. After I graduated from my Zoology BSc degree at Newcastle University in July 2015 I realised that I could not stand by and do nothing. I know that the best way I can help is by building on what I learned in my undergraduate degree and studying the world's biodiversity and modern conservation methods in greater depth.
I already I have a place on this one year masters degree and if I am able to raise the funds I will be able to gain the knowledge and qualifications that will allow me to start working on conservation projects around the world. Funding me will play a part in saving the planet. It will only take one year from September 2016 for me to be able to play an active role in the conservation of our planet's animals and vital natural systems.
I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when I was four years old. Ever since that time I have never given up on trying to stay as well as possible and, even though I have occasionally failed, I believe that this struggle has built up my will-power and determination. This makes me confident to say that I will never give up. If I can raise enough money I will study hard, graduate well, and go out into the world determined to do all I can to conserve the environment and help us all.
The UK government has recently announced that it will support masters students through their studies with student loans. Unfortunately I am not eligible for this help as I will be studying in an institution outside of the UK. However, it is still important for me to study at Trinity College Dublin as it is a world renowned university and the Biodiversity and Conservation MSc course has the most thorough and on-topic range of modules of any course I have seen. Studying in Ireland will ensure that I am fully qualified to start conservation work immediately on graduating in 2017.
