Funding a Two-Year Masters Degree in Jyvaskyla, Finland
Hello and thank you for clicking on my page, I'm Matt Wesley, an aspiring Entrepreneur, tea drinking extraordinaire and in my final days of my Bachelors Degree in International Business Management at Southampton Solent University (please get a first class!). Earlier this year, I made a succesful application to the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland to study an MSC in International Business and Entrepreneurship. This is a course which is forward looking, exploring entrepreneurial business in more depth than my current degree which will help to provide me with an amazing platform to create my own innovative company.
It is important to mention that, I have no money, and I have been unable to obtain any grant, the new masters funding does not cover UK students travelling abroad making my avenues for funding very much limited.
Here is a break-down of costs (click the figures to see where they come from)
- Tuition Fees - £0 (I applied for Finland because I knew fair well that it would be impossible in terms of raising funds to study in the UK)
- Cost of Rent - €250 PM = £196.52...... £196.52 x 12 months = £2358.24
- Cost of Living - €200 PM =£157.22......£157.22 x 12 months = £1,886.64 (I have been a student for the past 4 years so I am happy to live off Pot Noodles and Pasta, anything to go to Finland).
Ultimately, my main goal is to follow up the masters by creating my own innovative company, which I would love to create in Finland as they have an amazing culture of innovation.
About me... The Entrepreneurial Tea Drinker!
So, yeah as you can tell I like tea, infact I like it so much I actually got told by the doc to stop drinking so much of it. Anyway, 5 bullet points that sum me up:
- Hardworker - I had a paper round when I was 12, now im 22 and im about to graduate, hopefully with a first class degree - I always try to push myself.
- Risk Accepting - Im not afraid to bet on myself
- Organised - Created 2 small companies; 1 in the UK (small marketing company) and 1 in the Netherlands (Bicycle Tyre Repair Company)
- Motivated - I try to set my goals as high as possible, working in NYC for a short internship, 1 year study abroad programme in the Netherlands taught me to continously push myself
- Ambition - After recently completing my dissertation; "An Investigation into the Development of Innovation Culture", I want to further my research by creating my own innovative company

My Story
- What are you doing and why? - I want to study at the University of Jyvaskyla because I believe it is the perfect environment to educate myself in becoming a better entrepreneur. In the past I have created small business with friends, but they never really achieved what I wanted. I believe this experience will give me the tools and knowledge to go one step further.
- Why is this important to you? - Business is something which I have always been passionate about, in my first year of University to help pay towards my rent and expenses I was importing headphones from China and selling them on eBay, I got a real thrill from creating this mini business and I want to continue with this thrill and one day create an amazing company.
- What impact will you create if you pledge? - By pledging anything you are helping me and giving me an opportunity to fulfil my goal of going to Finland, this will not only help me to obtain an MSC in IBE but it will also help me on my path of creating my own company.
