Hola..

I have been fortunate enough to have secured a place at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to study a Masters in Drama & Movement Therapy. The course is full-time (5 days a week) so I am unable to work alongside my studies. Because of this, I am hoping to raise £2000 to help towards paying for mandatory therapy sessions, course fees, books and basic living costs.

What is Drama & Movement Therapy?

Dramatherapy is a form of psychological therapy in which all of the performance arts are utilised within the therapeutic relationship. Dramatherapists are both artists and clinicians and draw on their trainings in theatre/drama and therapy to create methods to engage clients in effecting psychological, emotional and social changes. It is working with adults and children with Autism, it is working with the elderly, it is working within drug and rehabilitation centres, within schools, within hospitals and within prisons — using drama to bring about positive change, in a purposeful way.

Why am I doing it?

Because I believe that there are too many marginalised communities in our society that are quite often neglected/forgotten about and I want to make a difference. Upon completing my training (approved by Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)) I will be a certified therapist — it will be then when I can start transforming communities, especially in the North.

My promise to you:

Normally costing £50 a session, I will be offering 40 FREE Drama Therapy sessions on completion of my course which will held in my hometown, Hartlepool. These will be both, 1-1 sessions and group sessions and will be offered openly to anyone who feels like they would benefit from them.

Where will the money go?

All of the money I raise will go towards paying all of the below, and will reduce the amount of money I will have to lend from SFE and the bank.

- Tuition fees: £7,000 (I have already received a £3000 scholarship from Central, reducing my course fees from £10,000 to £7,000)

- Individual Psychotherapy: 35 sessions at £50 or £1,750

- Group Dramatherapy Sessions: 35 sessions at £35 or £1,225

- Rent for 18 months: £12,600.

- Basic living costs: £6,800

Rewards:

As many of you will know, my Mrs makes pretty incredible cakes and is the Boss-Lady and owner of The Wildflower Bakery. As always in her efforts to support me, she will be giving up her time and cakes, and will be providing some pretty awesome raffle prizes for those who donate.

Finally…

I am very aware that there are there are far more important things in the world than my education, and causes much closer to home that you may choose to put your money towards. So please don’t feel pressured into giving your money; you could just share this page with anyone you think may wish support me — share it on the Facebook, Twitter or wherever.

Many thanks, all the love,
Chance Marshall,  (from Seaton Lane).

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who has invested into my future, and in the future of those who I hope to help through being a certified Drama and Movement Therapist.

There is this quote by Wolfgang Von Goethe which I really try and live by, I think it's an amazing philosophy and the part about Providence articulates my circumstances better than I ever could:

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now."

I have dreamt big, probably bigger I should have ever dared too as a raggy lad from Seaton Lane - but I have only dared to dream big because of the people I have been surrounded by throughout my life. The people who have invested in me, give me there time. Me Nan, my family (the ones with us, and the ones not), Mim, The Warks, my fiercely loving friends and their families... and all of you. You guys and gals who have took the time out to read my pitch, and donate to fund my studies. I'm excited for the future, I'm excited to spend my life helping others, just as you have helped me.
