OUR PROJECT

About us

Greenmount is a two form entry school and occupies a beautiful site at the edge of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. We share our site with Greenmount Pre School which is led and managed by the school’s Governing Body for the local community. This means that children can be educated and cared for at Greenmount from the age of two until they are ready to begin secondary schooling at eleven.

We aim to provide a stimulating, caring, safe environment for all of our children and their families, for our staff, volunteers and governors. We strive to offer a wide range of stimulating and exciting learning opportunities to support and challenge the learning community at Greenmount to persevere, achieve success and develop skills and attitudes to live full and rewarding lives.

What do we want?

We are looking for a range of Computational devices to aid our Computer science curriculum. Currently, we do not have any coding devices to deliver the broad curriculum we’ve developed. The children are extremely keen on coding and while we use instruction based models, it will be great for the children to be able to actually programme a computing device; thereby, having a well-structured and balanced computer science knowledge.

With your support, we would like a selection of computer science programming devices that can be accessed by all pupils in the school to teach advanced programming skills from age 4.

Who is this for?

These resources would benefit the whole school from EYFS to Year 6. Bee-Bots and Blue-Bots are often used in EYFS and KS1; however, we aim to use them in KS2 as well, in order to get the children critically thinking and making informed decisions when coding at a higher level.

Why do we want it?

At the moment, the only coding systems we have use computers (Chromebooks) and websites that offer a coding platform. In order to give the children the best foundation on which to build concrete computer science knowledge, hands on programmable resources are essential.

Not only that, it will also help the children to self-assess their programmes and have a high-level meaningful conversation with their peers and adults about solving problems or bugs they have identified.. The resources will give the children those all important problem analysis and solving skills and will feed into every other aspect of their learning. This will help achieve our ultimate aim of creating independent and successful learners, who will take complete ownership of their learning, work collaboratively and independently by developing a higher level of communication and social skills.

These resources will benefit not only our computing curriculum, but a broader curriculum whereby computer science could be delivered through various subject lessons. It will also aid our problem solving framework by giving the ability to use different heuristics to solve a given problem.
