The Alumni and Friends Fund matchfunded £
Hi! We're the final year Fashion Design students looking to raise £2000 to help us build and design our exhibition space at Graduate Fashion Week in London. This will enable our whole cohort to showcase and promote their work at the largest Graduate Fashion showcase in the world, alongside our colleagues studying BA Hons Fashion Communication with Business Studies. This fundraiser is also part of 3 years worth of raising funds towards our ultimate goal of £10,000.
B19Fashion comprises of the 44 final year students studying the BA Hons Fashion with Business Studies at the University of Brighton. Throughout the four year journey in our course, we have learned and refined our skills to make and design clothes with the aim at the end of the course to produce a 6-look collection and an industry-ready portfolio.
As part of the final year or our degree, we will participate at Graduate Fashion Week, an annual event showcasing the work of over 1,000 of the very best students and graduates from the most influential and inspiring universities around the world, Graduate Fashion Week represents the future of creative design talent. The event takes place annually at the beginning of June, attracts over 30,000 people ranging from high-profile industry professionals, members of the press, recruiters and prospective students, will feature over 25 catwalk shows and over 40 exhibition including the University of Brighton. There are 2 parts to Graduate Fashion Week, the press catwalk show and the exhibition space, displaying the portfolios and CVs of all the members of the year group. This provides us as a cohort, with an amazing opportunity to not only showcase our work but to ultimately help with securing jobs or potential investments to help set up our careers within the fashion industry.
Currently, our alumnus have secured jobs at Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Craig Green, Debenhams, River Island, ASOS and many more. Graduate Fashion Week also gives us an opportunity to participate in awards and competitions, with Brighton's very own Hannah Gibbins winning the Debenhams Menswear Award in 2018 and Danielle Reynolds winning the New Business Award in 2015.
Here's a look at what the University of Brighton had to offer at Graduate Fashion Week 2018:
Graduate Fashion Week is a once in a life time experience for everyone in the final year and for many of us will be the only opportunity to take part at such event whereby graduate talent and design is celebrated is such a large scale. Our stand and catwalk is a celebration of 4 years worth of work into our degrees and a new beginning into the industry. This event plays an important role in setting up our careers in the fashion industry, enabling members of the cohort to secure jobs, potential investors and network directly with industry individuals.
By contributing to this project, no matter how small the donation, you would be supporting and encouraging graduate fashion talent and celebrating the hard work we've put into developing and producing our final collections and portfolios, which is a huge undertaking both in terms of the time and cost.
If the minimum amount of funds are made, we would be able to begin finalising a design for our stand and start ordering base materials to help build the stand such as shelving, wood/mdf boards, paints and etc. If we make more than our target, we would be able work out and improve upon the aesthetics of the stand and incorporate various technological elements such as television screens, potentially working with virtual and augmented reality to create an interactive environment at the stand as well as other props to such as postcard, pencils and etc. Funds from this will also help cover transporting and moving the stand from Brighton to the venue in London as well as cover any external help we receive to build the stand, builders and movers. We will be posting regularly on our social media to update on how we progress throughout the year and our road to Graduate Fashion Week.
We have some fab rewards to thank everyone who donates, whatever the amount you might give. Check them out on the side!
