By investing in a Painting or Sculpture you would be investing in future Artwork and the future career of a practicing Artist and teacher
I am embarking on a Masters in Painting at the Royal College of Art, I was thrilled when I found out I had been accepted on the course, but overwhelmed at the prospect of supporting myself financially whilst simultaneously covering the £19,000 fees and dedicating myself to the two year, full time course.
I have been saving for the past three years in order to do a Masters and I'll continue to work part time throughout my studies
However because of the increase in tuition fees and lack of government subsidisation (both recent and unforeseen changes due to the well publicised cuts to Arts funding) I decided to create a crowdfunding campaign as a proactive and creative way to introduce people to my work and raise the necessary funds
I studied at Camberwell College of Arts and Central Saint Martins before several years of independent practice with a studio in London with charity Acme
I have been teaching Art alongside my practice for the past six years, with students from 6-60 and beyond. For the past four years I have taught at Chelsea Fine Arts, who are extremely supportive of my studies. Teaching drawing and painting is something I am committed to and which enriches my own practice
I am at the stage where my practice would benefit greatly from the Internationally renowned MA in Painting at the RCA
Read more about what I will be doing here and here
Alumni of the Painting MA at the RCA include David Hockney, Tracey Emin, my favourite painter working at the moment Chris Ofili and more recently, another of my current favourite artists, Anthea Hamilton, a nominee for this years Turner Prize
The total fees are £19,000
The first instalment of £4,750 is due at the beginning of the first term in September, I have paid the £500 deposit and through the support of Chelsea Fine Arts and my savings, I have covered it
The second instalment is due at the beginning of the second term...
My aim is to raise £4,916.25 (the second instalment of fees plus the 3.5% Paypal fee incurred for all donations)
Anything raised above this amount would contribute to my second year fees of £9,500 and enable me to dedicate more of my time to the course which would be invaluable
I am determined for this crowdfunding campaign to be an opportunity for people to purchase an artwork and receive something in exchange for their support, I want it to be an investment for those who are able to pledge
Even if you are unable to pledge much, any amount would be much appreciated and contribute to my goal
I chose crowdfunding because anyone can get involved at any level and I want my work to reach a large audience. Even if they are not able to contribute financially, if people can spread the word it would be incredible
The Prints, Paintings and Sculptures are recent work from the past three years and make up the body of work which led to being accepted to the RCA
Pledges for New Work will involve a Studio Visit to the Painting studios at the RCA to see the work in progress
There is also the opportunity for a Studio Visit for an individual or group and an Artist Talk in the studio or your own home or venue
I chose Hubbub because it is dedicated to education and although there are transaction fees, unlike other crowdfunding websites, they do not take a percentage of the funds raised
I was nervous about making a video (as you can probably tell...) but please watch the short clip and have a look at the images of my current work on my website, further examples of the paintings and sculptures are available on request!
Please share this project with anyone you think would be interested in the work or could support the project
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in person... Spread the word!
The more people that hear about the project, the more likely it is to succeed
If you are interested in making a contribution, however small, or pledging a larger amount and investing in an artwork it would be incredible... Thank you for your support!
Select this reward if you just want to donate to the project without receiving a reward.
