The John Hampden School is an infant school teaching children from 4 to 7 years old. Based in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, the school currently has 270 pupils. The remarkable team of staff and governors work tirelessly to ensure that the children are happy and challenged and leave the school with the highest levels of attainment they are capable of. The school is very proud of its achievements and its excellent reputation.
The school ethos of 'Loving to Learn' is captured by the following verse:
The John Hampden School aims to be a secure and welcoming environment that fosters progress, achievement, aspiration and the social skills to use in a diverse community. We strive to balance rigorous academic standards with high quality care, guidance and support.
Our aims are to:
The children are at the heart of our curriculum. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop and build their self-esteem and self-confidence. We encourage our children to have high aspirations and strive for the best.
We are constantly reviewing and developing the curriculum. Our main aim is to provide exciting, stimulating topics which the children become fully absorbed in using a cross-curricular approach. We strive to encompass as many curriculum subjects into each topic as possible, thereby making them relevant and meaningful for our children. By adding new technology components to each topic, we truly believe that we can deliver an even more dynamic and memorable learning experience.
This is why we believe it is time to start a digital revolution at the John Hampden School! We want our students to embrace our aims and develop the skills they need for the future. 90% of jobs today require digital skills and we need to familiarise children with varying forms of technology from a young age. Our objective is to bring in new technology in high enough quantities to meet the needs of each class and each individual.
We are hoping to invest in some Blue-Bots and microphones for the children at John Hampden School. Blue-Bots are a simple and child-friendly education tool that provide the perfect starting point for teaching control, directional language and programming. Blue-Bots help children learn to code, debug and simulate algorithms for the new National Curriculum for Computing. Children use Blue-Bots to plan their algorithm on the screen of their device and send it to the Blue-Bot to perform right in front of their eyes. They are fantastic new learning tools! We would love to buy enough Blue-Bots to ensure a class can have enough to share one Blue-Bot between 2 or 3 children.
Complemented by a wide range of cross-curricular mats to programme with, and fun accessories to personalise, Blue-Bots are important programming resources for any EYFS or KS1 classroom.
The second product we aim to purchase are Rainbow Easi-Speak microphones. These MP3 recorders build confidence in reluctant talkers and have special settings to add exciting colours into their recordings and assessments. These microphones allow children to record and playback recordings remotely without being attached to a PC. They can be used for anything from role-play activities to outdoor exploration.
Should we reach our stretch goals, we will add the Easi-Ears Story System to our ICT toolkit. This system enables teachers to put their own audio content onto the headphones so that children can listen independently or in a group. As wireless headphones, children can be active whilst listening to the content/instructions.
We are raising funds for equipment that will be used across the whole school. The products are so versatile that they will be incorporated into a wide range of cross-curricular activities.
It is essential that we add new learning tools to the curriculum in order to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology. Last month, the Department of Education called for a technology revolution in schools and this is just the first project you will see as John Hampden joins the revolution!
Adding Blue-Bots, wireless microphones and headsets is just the beginning. These educational tools will make learning seem like play and will keep students active and engaged whilst they are absorbing new skills. One of our key priorities is to enhance student experiences and boost learning outcomes and we believe that these tools will help us do just that.
2 sets of 6 Blue-Bots @ £489.54 each = £979.08
2 sets of 6 microphones with charging base @ £275.94 per set = £551.88
Total cost = £1,530.96
As we have been fortunate enough to reach our target, then we would like to thank all of our donors for their generosity, and ask that you keep supporting us so that we can also buy 2 sets of the Easi-Ears Story System @ £395.64 each = a total of £791.28.
So our new target is £2,322.
Please donate to help us support the children of John Hampden School. This will be a huge boost to our ICT offering and will help our students thrive in an age of ever-changing technology. Please share this project with anyone you think would support us. You can share the link at the top of the page on Facebook, Twitter, by email, blog or even just mention it at the school gate! Please help make a difference for our students.
