Who am I?

My name is Liseth. I am a Venezuelan woman, who lives in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia with her family: her husband and her 5 years old son.

I’ve done many things and had many jobs in my life, but the one that seemed to be temporal ended as the more thrilling and the one that captured my interest the most: teaching my mother tongue to everyone, who wishes to learn it as a foreign language. Now I know that my mother language is a beautiful, vast and fascinating language. In the process of learning to teach I’ve learnt to love and discover my language.

I'd love to finish my undergraduate studies at the Open University.

Why the Open University?

On the one hand, because the OU gave the possibility to transfer credits from my previous studies, so I can keep going without starting again from the very beginning. This is important for me, as I have started a degree twice and now I just need to finish my undergraduate qualification as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the OU provides distance learning, which is another vital aspect for me, as I could never handle full-time learning again which requires physical attendance at a university, due to the necessity to combine all my commitments: my family, my work and my studies.

The studies actually being online at the Open University is one reason why I choose this institution. And also due to the fact that they give the possibility to take in consideration credits obtained in previous studies.

What I need this for?

These studies are not only because I need a degree, but also to give continuity to everything I’ve done so far.

I want to keep improving. To do my work as a Spanish Teacher even more professionally then how I do it now. To have the possibility to do a Master’s Degree. To have an open door to professional meetings and events. To have access to participate in conferences and master classes as a full value professional. Because studies help me to focus my ideas and energy on concrete things, solutions and projects. In a nutshell: help me think and work in a more efficient way.

How am I planning to do this?

I know what studying online is: I had a two month experience with a subject of the Master in Didacticism of the Spanish Language as a Foreign or a Second Language that offers the Spanish University of La Rioja. This was a scholarship I obtained. It wasn’t easy, but for me it was exciting too. It was like not only myself who was studying, but all my family too: my 5 years old son and my husband, as a good part of my time and my attention was dedicated to reading, writing and thinking of my studies. I find this experience good for my family too, so that I can set a proper example for my child to never give up.

How will the money be spent?

The money will be spent paying the tuition fee for the modules I’ll study at the OU. A maximum of 4 modules with a cost of £2864 each.

The minimum of £3,007 includes £2,864 and £143 (5% paypal).

The target of £12,029 is £11,456 (for 4 modules) + £573 (5% paypal).

Thank you in advance for anything you feel you can contribute. I will be eternally grateful!

My plans

I have a lot of projects and a lot of ideas related to teaching and helping people learn Spanish as a Foreign Language. One of my biggest dreams and an important plan is to run the project A la hispana , so the web page www.alahispana.com. I see it as an educational platform that suggests learning from a lively perspective, committed to the interests of the students, making use of a pedagogical methodology and an approach to the language accessible for international students, where anybody is welcome who is interested in learning the Spanish language no matter what their mother tongue, neither their current level of Spanish knowledge, as well as teachers of Spanish. A la hispana means “the way of the Spanish spoken world”, as you say a la napolitana, a la bolognesa, and as we say in Spanish: a la plancha.

I’m also planning to do this awesome Master’s Degree in Didacticism of the Spanish Language as a SL that is offered at the Spanish University of La Rioja, online. But without having a degree it is impossible.

Me and my husband plan to make our music band. He plays the guitar and composes the songs and I write the lyrics and sing. I’m also learning to use some percussion instruments as the shaker and the tambourine. Most of our songs are in English, but some of them are in Spanish too.

What are my interests?

I love music in many ways: to listen to it, to sing and to dance. How music is made is a captivating aspect for me too.

I enjoy literature a lot. I’d spend half of my time reading novels, stories, essays, tales, biographies, poetry, etc. Sharing them with my son is another marvellous part of it.

I can read Dostoyevsky in Russian, which makes me so proud. I’ve already read Demons and now I’m reading The brothers Karamazov. I love to study and the idea of doing it in English is so exciting. I studied at the Moscow State Linguistic University in Russian. It was great. Studying in a foreign language brings you the possibility to know the language better, deeper.

I have a beginners level of German, another language that means very much for me and that I like so much.

I like to write too. Often I start writing something for my students that should be short and easy and finish with a fiction story for native speakers.

I love to dance. Dancing is one of my passions. I dance to everything. Everything except classical music and tango. Tango because I don’t know how and classical considering that it’s better to listen to it. The rest of the music I dance in my own way. I’ve never learned how to dance, I only let music lead me and that’s all. People say I do it well, but my best dance companion is my son.

I like everything hand-made. Most of my bijouterie accessories are made by myself. I do it for friends too as a gift. Although, many years ago, when I lived in Venezuela I made bijouterie for sale as a temporary job when I was studying at the University. It was fun and I could do it wherever I was.

Almost all my bags are made by myself too, normally with waste materials.

I adore travelling, but travelling on my own with my family. I’m curious of the culture and the way of life of the cities or countries I visit. By the way, we are members of the community of couchsurfing. Here you can visit our profile: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/tum
