FREEDOM FOR INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY
At Little Stanion Primary school we develop independent thinkers with an adaptable approach to learning. Our learners relish new challenges and tackle new concepts with determination and perseverance. Philosophy is used to enhance thinking skills, generate active discussion and debate, developing an understanding of moral and British Values and each other.
Little Stanion Primary school are in desperate need for new tablets for our children to access learning platforms to enhance their skills, especially to access the accelerated reader platform. We are aiming for 2 with this fundraising but realistically at least 8 would help us to be the most effective.
All tablets are to be kept in the library and all children in years 1-6 will have full access to the tablets during their free time or to help in lessons.
Our whole school vision for this year is to increase our reading and comprehension skills. We have recently subscribed to the accelerated reader programme and all children who are free readers are enrolled onto the scheme. This has had a positive impact across the school. Our children have increased their reading and our library is now a busy hive of activity. As part of the scheme, children can quiz after they have read a book, gain points and increase their reading levels.
Unfortunately our outdated laptops can’t cope with the demand. It takes 10 minutes for the laptops to turn on and children can only quiz during any free time, typically during break time or lunch time. The laptops frequently turn off or lose charge midway through the quizzing.
By having tablets that are in our library children can quickly access the accelerated reader quiz with ease. They would be able to quiz on the day, which they aren’t able to do currently due to our failing laptops. By quizzing the children will increase their reading, build on their comprehension skills and enjoy some good books in the process.
