The Project

The Bali Sports Foundation is an Indonesian based charity that works to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Indonesia by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace. Through Team Brunel Abroad a group of students from Brunel University London will be fundraising to support the work of the foundation, and will be partaking in a two week trip to volunteer on Bali Sport Foundation projects. Each student will be raising funds to contribute to the cost of the trip and to enable the Team Brunel Abroad project to make a donation to the Bali Sports Foundation to support their future work.

Who are you?

I am a third year Sports Science student specialising in human performance at Brunel University London. I am currently on a full time placement at a Chiropractors in Uxbridge as a doctor's assistant and massage therapist until June 2019.

From the age of 4 I have been involved with a variety of sports and I currently play for the University’s Men’s 2nd XV. I am a caring person who has always taken great pleasure in helping people out and improving the lives of others, to do this in one of the most beautiful places on the planet would be an unforgettable experience.

Your story

This June, a handful of Brunel volunteers and I will be travelling to Bali in Indonesia to help organise and run many activities for disabled individuals in Denpasar. One of the main competitions for the athletes will be the Bali 4s wheelchair rugby which is an international event that will run over 3 or 4 days. We will also be touring parts of the island in a 2-day hand cycling challenge with some of the disabled athletes. In our spare time we will be supporting local projects with BSF in the local community to help improve infrastructure and quality of lives.

After seeing first-hand how a disabled individual’s life can be improved through access to sports, I feel it is so important to try and make it available to everyone. In developing countries such as Bali, access to facilities and equipment such as wheelchairs or hand bikes are severely restricted. This project is important to me as it means that I will be part of the team that helps to change the life of many less fortunate individuals and families in Denpasar by sharing my love of sport with them.

By donating to this crowd funding page, you will be helping to improve the lives of people living in poor conditions without the appropriate equipment and facilities to carry out the sports they love. Your donation will help to buy sports equipment that disabled individuals can use to boost their social, mental and physical wellbeing. It will also help to start up new activities within BSF meaning that more disabilities can be catered for with a variety of sports and BSF can continue with their ongoing community projects.

Where will the money go?

The money raised will cover the cost of my travel and accommodation for the two weeks, participation fees to events and £1050 of the money raised will go directly to the Bali Sports Foundation:

      £1050 charity donation

      £350 accommodation (bed and breakfast)

      £50 Airport transfers

£100 2 day hand cycing challenge

*All participating students will be expected to raise a minimum of £1000 above their travel costs to donate to the foundation, and any surplus will be added to the total donated to the foundation. In the case that any student is not able to reach their fundraising total or is unable to travel with the group for any reason, funds already raised through this platform will be donated to the foundation, minus any costs already incurred.

Any donation no matter how big or small will be hugely appreciated and will make a massive difference. Please use the power of social media to raise awareness of this cause; together we can help reach our target and have a postive impact on the lives of people less fortunate than ourselves!

Make sure you follow me on social media to receive updates on how far your donations have travelled!
