The University of Leicester Orchestra is a diverse group of around 50 talented, hardworking musicians.
We believe that music is an incredibly powerful thing to be a part of - it brings people together and has a huge benefit to the wellbeing of everybody involved. Being part of the orchestra creates the opportunity for wonderful new friendships, and gives us opportunities of all sorts both on and off stage.
Every year we put on two concerts, the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert. This March we have decided to perform our Spring Concert in aid of two charities - Lost Chord (a music-focused dementia charity), and Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
We really love the idea of raising money for such wonderful causes, but in giving our proceeds to charity we lose the ability to make enough money to cover the costs of the concert. This is where crowdfunding comes in!
By covering the costs of the concert in advance using this platform, we can give all the proceeds from the day of the concert (from on-the-day tickets, refreshments and the raffle) to these charities.
The money raised will go towards the following expenses:
Sheet music purchase and hire: £240
Concert flyers and programmes: £30
Food and drink expenses: £60-£75
External musician payment and travel expenses: £50-£100
Any extra funds raised will go towards the purchase of new equipment in future, for example music, music stands or instruments. At the moment, we are looking into purchasing equipment that protects the hearing of members that have sensory processing difficulties - especially those who have particularly loud and potentially damaging instruments behind them.
The Concert is on 22nd of March at 5pm, in the Fraser Noble Hall.
