Our approach to learning

We have a very creative approach to learning at St Peter’s. In our EYFS and Y1 classes, children learn through a mixture of adult directed sessions and independent learning challenges. They choose what they want to learn and when. They are excited and motivated to learn.

Our project

We want to build on this creative approach to learning across the school. We want to continue offering children the opportunity to be independent learners through harnessing the power of mobile technology to create a paperless classroom.

What will children’s learning look like?

Children will learn through a mix of teacher input sessions and challenges which they will access and complete using our existing e-learning platform on mobile devices. For example, in Science children might be asked to explore which surface has the most or least friction. They could then film their experiments, make notes and upload these to the class folder so everyone in the class can see what they have found out.

Will the children not write anymore?

Of course we still want children to write and we will still have paper in our paperless classroom! We will still teach writing and drawing skills – as children will need these all the way through their school life. What this is about is opening up the way that children engage with their learning, moving away from boring books and worksheets and finding new, creative ways for the children to demonstrate the brilliant learning that they are capable of.

We have started by trying to fund 4 iPads but we would really like for each child to have their own iPad to work with – this is just the first step on our journey.

You don't need to donate to our appeal to help us succeed! Please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat over the fence or on your blog.
