PAUSE is a Scottish service oriented organisation that focuses on reducing employees’ stress in order to improve productivity and performance.

Stress can manifest itself in many different ways.  Sometimes, it is only noticeable to the person who suffers from it but it can also be identified by observing certain signs and behaviours.  Feeling stressed at work is something very common and it can be linked to many reasons such as excessive pressure or difficult relationships between staff.

Signs of stress that can be easily identified by managers are disputes and disaffection within teams, increasing staff turnover, increase in staff complaints, sickness/absence and poor general staff performance leading to customer complaints.

Stress does not only affect an organisation’s performance negatively, but, increases the chances of serious health conditions such as individuals’ mental health and issues with metabolism, reproduction and immune system.

There are different activities and methods that doctors recommend to relieve stress but there are still many people who ignore them or simply do not have the time to dedicate to them.  PAUSE brings the solution to this by taking staff away from their work desks twice a week for 30min in order to help them to relax and teach them how to reduce and control their stress levels.

Our trained instructors go directly to the organisation’s premises and teach a form of yoga-breathing through a special technique called Buteyko.  The key principle of this technique is controlling one’s breathing by doing it less frequently and less deeply and it helps to restore confidence in one’s own ability to handle anxiety symptoms.

This Buteyko Method has been taught in the West for the last 22 years as a highly effective drug-free education process that has been demonstrated to reduce stress and many other common disorders such as asthma or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  It is proven to improve quality of life, sleeping and to enhance the ability to exercise.

The positive side of practising this technique at the work place is that it does not require a special room, changing clothes and it does not tire staff.  It only needs a quiet room, and a minimum of 30 min per session after which people could go back to work immediately.
