Anonymous donor matchfunded £5,000

As you may know, PCBC stalwart and 1976 Pembroke matriculant James van Oosterom passed away last August after an 18 month battle with leukaemia. Rowing was a central part of Jamie's life both whilst he was at Pembroke, and for many years after he graduated – he was hugely proud to row in the first eight, and regularly returned to coach various PCBC crews over the years after he left.
We have discussed with the College the possibility of seeking to commission a new boat for the men's 1st VIII to be named after Jamie as a fitting memorial to his long relationship with the PCBC.
The current members of the PCBC are fully supportive of this initiative and we can be sure that Jamie would be enormously chuffed to be remembered in this way, with a boat named after him moving up the tables, and there's a decent chance that, if we act together, we can achieve just that.
With thanks,
Peter Golob (1976) and Mark Lloyd-Williams (1976)
The total cost of a new boat is £32,000 – rather more than it cost in our own time in 1976! We hope that with support from members of the PCBC and Jamie’s matriculation year, and the benefits of Gift Aid, we can raise at least £20,000 towards this target. PCBC would then underwrite the remaining cost of the boat. Of course, if we can raise the full £32,000 – all the better!
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the first £5,000 raised will be gift-matched pound for pound , doubling the value of your gift.
We'd be thrilled if you made a gift to this project in memory of Jamie, but money isn't everything. If you don't feel in a position to give financially, please share this page with as many PCBC friends or contemporaries of Jamie as you can! Whether on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email or even a face to face chat, the more people you share this with, the more likely we are to succeed.
Thank you!
